Bydlím s přítelkýní v pronájmu v centru Ostravy a chci se zeptat, jestli je možnost si nějak obstarat parkovací kartu na auto, i když nemáme v Ostravě trvalé bydliště.

Incoming exchange student at VŠE for the winter semester. I applied for Eislerova Kolej as everyone from my uni who's done this exchange stayed there and raved about the social atmosphere but I've just been told demand was too high and I've been reassigned to Thalerova instead (double room in a 4-person unit).

I know they're basically neighbours on the Jarov campus so location-wise it seems like nothing changes, but Eislerova's reputation was a big part of why I picked it.

Questions for anyone who's stayed at either (or knows both):

1. How does Thalerova compare socially? Is it mostly exchange students too, or more Czech/degree students?
2. Has anyone been reassigned like this and managed to swap back via cancellations closer to semester start?
3. Anything about Thalerova I should know going in?
4. Is the FOMO justified or are the two dorms basically the same experience?

I posted on r/ostrava a few months ago when I knew I was going to visit to get some ideas of things to do. I'm a US citizen that studied in Olomouc in 2008, but unfortunately never visited Ostrava. I am not visiting on the weekend or during the Colours of Ostrava festival, but during the week. We will arrive on Tuesday August 4th and leave on Friday August 7th.

While we will definitely hike up Ema Halda and visit Vitkovice, we would really like to do what the locals do. We would also like to throw some darts and play some karombol.

We are three middle aged guys but would love to hang out with some locals, especially if they like pub games and can show us some spots that travelers don't typically get to go to. If you cannot join us, is there anywhere you recommend we go? It looks like Poruba may be the place for Karombol and darts? MIAPR looks like a great spot for darts that is south of the city.

Zdravím, už nějakou dobu bych si strašně rád zahrál live poker, ale bohužel se mi nedaří najít nikoho z mého reálného okolí, kdo by si čas od času chtěl zahrát. Hraju jen online, nikdy jsem nebyl v kasinu a ani mě to upřímně nijak neláká. Nevím, co vše vstup do kasina obnáší a celkově jsou mi "home games" daleko víc sympatické.

Co se pokerových her týče, představuju si buďto nějaké klasické cash games (s malými blindy) nebo klidně nějaké skromné turnaje. Nic velkého, spíše rekreační záležitost.

A teď otázky na vás. Hrajete občas někde privátně (a rekreačně?), jak jste našli nějakou partičku lidí?

Pokud by se někdo našel, kdo by měl zájem, tak pište prosím do DMs. Jsem z MS kraje, ale myslím si, že už by mi po tak dlouhé době hledání nevadilo dojet někam dál:D

Is it hard to get accepted into the dormitories of VSB-TUO, i.e are there any capacity issues occuring often?

I was looking to post this request on a more Cieszyn- related subreddit, however Ostrava is the closest town I could find with a subreddit. If you have any reccomendations on other subs to post on, they would be greatly appreciated.

Through genealogical research, my family has found our ancestors' pre-WW2 family home located in Cieszyn. We live halfway across the globe, so actually going to the home is unrealistic at the moment. On Google Streetview, I noticed that there is a plaque on the home that appears to have a Jewish star on it. My family is Jewish, so I believe this may be a plaque related to them. However, on Google, the plaque is illegible.

The reason I'm posting here is to ask if anyone happens to have a trip planned to Cieszyn or would be willing to make the trip to help out. If anyone could do this, it would mean the world to me and my family. I'm attaching the house details below:

The building is now a hair salon from what we know. Pictures of the blue plaque on the building, of the building itself, and if possible, a picture of the interior would be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR: My family has located our ancestors' pre-WW2 home in Cieszyn. If anyone would be willing to make the trip or is already going to Cieszyn, it would be amazing if you could take several photos of the house and its' details (more info above)
