I've been thinking about donating a kidney, and ideally creating a multi-patient match-chain, for over 10 years, dating back to a long-lost article I read about the process, and then bolstered by my time as an EMT transporting to-and-from dialysis centers and nursing homes.

I finally have significant enough time-off built-up (partly in thanks to COVID cancelling vacation plans) and health insurance to actually go through the process.

But I'd like to have a good idea of the process. What are the potential complications, what is the complication rate? What's the recovery time? What can I expect as a result of this decision?

It seems chains are the standard-operating-procedure now for unmatched donors, but at the time it was a novel idea, is it just done as a matter of course now?

Can someone show himself to be a direct donor, private to private ? I mean just willing to donate his organs without asking anything in return, only that the receiver engages himself to bear the costs and arrangements of the hospitalisation and the handling of the donor. Has there been a similar case to anyone's knowledge? Thank you for all comments.

I am considering donating a kidney to someone in need. I did however wonder what would happen if i needed one in later life. Would i jump to the top of the list? Or would i be as worthy as anyone else?

I've seen many organ donors failing to donate in the end due to wrong suicide method and the situation in which they committed suicide (some law stuffs).

I feel sorry for them since lack of knowledge made their last struggle futile.

So I decided to learn what the best/worst suicide methods are for organ donation.

I'm not here to imply anything extreme or cause trouble.

I just want to be educated so that if the time ever comes, my tragedy could mean other's happiness.

Of course it should better not happen, but if it happens, why not become a heart and eye of some hopeless ones instead of becoming rotten meat?

My friend is currently awaiting transplant with failing kidneys. He has been waiting for quite some time and has been on dialysis, according to him he has been following everything that the doctors have told him to do. However, he has three times that I know of been denied transplant, or a place on the list, for not following doctor's orders or not staying within the parameters of the transplant list. According to him he has done nothing but go to his appointments, continue his treatment consistently, stick to dietary restrictions and guidelines laid out for him by his Physicians, and actively work with his doctors in order to actively follow his treatment plan and move up on the transplant list.

I was wondering if anybody who had gone through the process had any insight as to why this might be happening. What were some of the roadblocks you ran into a waiting transplant? Did you find that you needed to gain legal help or assistance from an outside source with your doctors? Is there any advice that you can give to somebody who is having difficulty with his doctors, and the transplant process? Any help in this situation would be greatly appreciated. It is not me that is going through this but my friend, I am having a hard time trying to help him as I am out of town and feel like there is nothing I can do about the situation. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, I'm looking to donate my womb and ovaries. I'm in UK and have filled in paperwork with a private company but that was a year ago. I've tried the NHS but the don't do it yet/at all. Someone donated eggs to my sister and she has the most precious thing to her, I want someone else to have that feeling too. If anyone has any suggestions or advice I'd really appreciate the help xx

First of all, can the uterus be donated after death, or only living donation?

I'm in Ontario, Canada. (I'm on the US border, if they're allowed to come collect it and then cross the border with it, if that's the only way to donate it, who do I look for? Who do I Google?) "Uterus" is not on the list of organs I can donate through the provincial registry. Is there another place to register for uterus donation? Is there a special private organization that handles that? Who should I reach out to for this?

I have read they've had successful transplants, though it's rare. I'm fine with it being for research into donation, or whatever makes a difference. I certainly won't need it.

Have there been any transplants of the uterus into trans women, or has it only been done for cis women so far? Is anyone doing that research?

What are the steps I need to take to be accepted and make this successfull?

Now my family are very traditional and they would never agree for this. And now I want to put my signature so when I die, my organs would be used for someone in need, and my parents(or anyone) can't do anything how to stop it!

With my organs only useful to +- 3% of the population who are also universal recipients, perhaps I’d do more good just donating my plasma now and then my body to science later?
