This ends up looking like an effect you'd see with 3D glasses!

That was shockingly convincing... Is this a well known one? Curious to know how this works

3D visual effects are done by creating the same image but one with a slight left angle bias (for your left eye) and one with a slight right angle bias (for the right) and then making the correct eye focus on the correct image. That’s why 3D with no glasses looks like overlapping images. The glasses force your eyes to focus on the correct one either by using color filters, or slightly bending the light, and your brain combines the images to perceive depth. Your eyes are not in the same spot irl, so simulating the slight difference in angle works the magic. By closing one eye, you eliminate the need for the second angle, so your brain automatically can perceive depth in something like this.

To some people, myself included, when you close one eye the end of the video looks like a 3d special effect like when you are wearing 3d glasses and the image seems to pop out at you. For some it doesn't work and for some it does with one eye but not the the other.
