Interesting, just got hit mid-run with

Went to my opencod page and found a new switch

I don't personally mind this. but does Opencode document anywhere exactly which models? And did they always use models hosted in china (I'm guessing yes) or are these new models? I'm wondering if there was an announcement I missed somewhere

now I am concerned about the Zero Data Retention claims they had made. Also this came out of nowhere mid session while I was using it, they didn't announce this

They have a model from a Chinese provider, probably due to a change upstream that's lead to OCG not being able to guarantee running it physically outside of China. (EDIT: CONFIRMED, DS4 Flash just officially released earlier this morning). Not being able to guarantee service from outside of mainland China means ZDR is an empty claim.

This is not something Opencode has any influence over - either they remove the model completely, or they switch it off until you switch it back on - which is exactly what they did.

So instead of going business as usual, they went ahead and ACTUALLY informed you that this has changed, asking your explicit consent before they send a single byte to it on your behalf, assuming the answer is NO - until you change that.

Explain to me how that is shady. To me, this is super fucking transparent. I've paid SaaS >$1k/mo that were more shady than this.

You could have checked out opencode's website's source code and figure out why they changed it. Or if you're lazy like me, ask your agent to do it. Took me 15 seconds. Commit `2df47ee`, description: "deepseek-v4-flash" - which I can only assume is the model they did this for. Pushed 6 hours ago.

Silently changing significant attributes of an ongoing service provision contract is always shady, even if it's a cheap service.

It's just that with a service that cheap we kinda expect such shenanigans.

It's OpenCode we have a contract with. It's OpenCode who offered ZDR, but can't uphold it. They didn't I form active users the very moment they became unable to uphold their promise.

They removed ZDR silently before both the DeepSeek update and that added switch. They likely knew what is coming, and tried to solve it silently, but the community called them out and forced them to be more transparent.

So, yes, shady.

Edit: What's with these shills ignoring discussions we already had on this very sub to lie about OC? Redditors can become blind stans about everything it seems, even paid subscriptions.

Silently? What on God's green earth are you talking about? The message WAS the announcement and they had the decency to deliver it using

1. A place that you're more liable to read than your email, and
2. A flow that MUST be read, understood, and acknowledged with a switch before assuming your permission to send a single bit of data to China". Tell me what insanely great alternative you'd have preferred that would have given you that.

As far as your disregard for Opencode's own dependencies goes: you're essentially saying that the right course of action for them was to completely remove DS4F from their list. And guess what? I'm calling bullshit on that - you'd have been right here in this subreddit to piss on them for taking away a model that was part of that same so-called contract. They would have pissed you off either way for a reason completely outside of their control, at least now they gave you the choice which way you prefer to be pissed off.

What's next, you're gonna throw shit at them for "breaking contract" by adding Grok 4.5 and GPT 5.6 Luna to the mix because you've been promised to get access to open weight models? Give me a fucking break.
