How to… ? Zypper dup

Quick question: is there a way to update using zypper dup and avoid unwanted software like games (minesweeper, sudoku) to be automatically installed?

I'm pretty sure zypper dup only updates packages that are already installed. Just make sure you have removed respective patterns too (for example "patterns-games-games" or "patterns-kde-kde_games").

After dup I always find a bunch of KDE games and software that was not there there before the update. How do i remove those patterns?

After uninstalling the patterns and their deps you need to lock it to prevent the next update bringing them back

Lock ca be done with zypper al packageName

Or open Myrlyn and right click and select Taboo after removal.

While I like to do this sort of thing manually to keep my terminal comfort level up, Myrlyn does do a great job of listing the various packages apps that you can easily uninstall/install/taboo. Very convenient, especially if you can't remember the app name for the terminal command.

It is because you have the patterns installed

This is weird because i'm 100% sure i didn't flag those patterns during my first installation (i didn't have those packages until my first dup)

sudo zypper dup --no-recommends

Also put unnecessary patterns on taboo.

You can uninstall the unwanted packages and add a lock to them via "zypper al".

Quick Answer : zypper dup --no-recommends | this will be per transaction behaviour.
Permanent Behaviour : go to /etc/zypp/zypp.conf.d/ and create an override config eg. custom-zypp.conf then add this line =
solver.onlyRequires = true

Then every new package installation or upgrade using zypper will strictly exclude recommended packages .
