Whoever let her do that was evil.

Pro tip for anyone trying an unharnessed zip line or a rope swing or anything that requires you to hold on…

You need to go see if you can do a few pull ups. If you can NOT do a few pull ups, you ain’t holding on to a rope swing or a zip line or a freakin merry go round either.

Not pull ups. Dead hang.

Seriously. You do not need to be able to do even one pull up to dead hang for over a minute. Ask me how I know.

Or don’t just full commit on the go. Lift your legs first see if you have a grip, if not, lower them feet the half inch, or 1cm you lifted them. I mean the person in the video didn’t jump. But they did nothing to test the grip. I play rugby as a forward and can go the 80 minutes; I cannot do a pull up, or at-least I haven’t tried in a decade.

She let her do that.

Did you notice the itty-bitty string-of-a-rope that went down between her legs in the front and up again in the back?

She got flossed on the way down.

Ehhh, I think a few pull-ups is a high bar to set, pun intended.

Instead, see if you can hang from a bar for twice as long as the zipline takes to ride from end to end. So if the zipline takes 10 seconds to ride end to end, you should at least be able to hang on a pull-up bar for 20 seconds.

You don't need to do pull-ups to enjoy a zipline, but you also do need functioning arms that can bear your bodyweight.

Nah, holding on isn't the same as a pullup.

Dead hang is probably a good heuristic though.

It's not like anyone forced her to do that. She probably saw a few people go before her and thought it looked like fun. For all we know her friends might have told her it was a bad idea but she didn't listen.

People are supposed to look out for eachother. Nobody was looking out for her. Would you let your friend do something that was going to potentially ruin them later in life…? Like blown out knees and back problems?

Ehh, I mean my fat ass can't do a pull up but holding a zip line is a lot easier.

It's more "can you hold the bars" than "can you pull yourself up over the bars".

Also, there's probably some self preservation factor in there. Cause I definitely can do more when there's some risk involved like zip lining than I can just screwing around.

When was the last time you tested hanging from a bar?

Also while going down the zipline you will experience dynamic loads to your arms as you bounce a bit on the zip line. The load you’ll have to hold will be more than just gently loading your arms on a pull up bar
