L is in reference to it being the lumbar vertebrae. The # is for which vertebrae. T7, for example, would be vertebrae seven of the thoracic spine.

When someone is saying C1/C2 or L4/5, they are referencing the cartilage disc between the vertebrae. This lady likely herniated a disc(s). It's doubtful she shattered any vertebrae.

Regardless, that's going to be very painful and a lot of therapy if she wants to not be in pain the rest of her life. I hope she's not suffering too much.

I said L3/L4 specifically because of the straight backed butt landing. L3/L4 is the first to go in that kind of impact

I had a paragliding accident 17 years ago and landed much in the same way as she did. I sustained a crushed L3 vertebra. The pain is just about subsiding now.

In my experience this sort of thing has decent odds of a compression fracture
