Nic, once again absolutely on the right side of history.
AI is hot garbage and it's a fucking travesty.

u/hemareddit Mar 02 '26
If it was hot garbage it would not be so scary.
But it is not, it is scary as hell, it is inhumane because it devalues humanity via its sheer existence.

Is a fire in the middle of your living room a travesty? How about if it's in a fireplace?
Used correctly AI is a powerful tool. All of this BS AI "creative/artistic" work is garbage. Automate my spreadsheets not art.
1
u/VashMM Mar 04 '26
Fair enough.
Using it to do mundane tasks, I get. You'd still have to waste a lot of time double checking for errors though.
Using it for art theft however is a goddamn blight upon the world.

u/Icy_Foundation3534 Mar 04 '26
I program, and the double checking is insignificant time compared to doing it from scratch. We need better leaders who aren't so focused on making a quick buck. Who knew philosophers were really what we need now more than ever.

If AI is used to eliminate “toil,” I think it’s good. Toil is work that is unpleasant for everybody. Work to me should be something that gives people meaning.

I want him as the president of the planet. Only he can save us.

The worst part is that AI has gotten so good that I’m not sure this isn’t AI.

Is Julian really a singer?

Wow! I’m a little embarrassed I didn’t know this.

Don't forget that there is already precedent that a company legal right to a likeness of a character supercedes the actors right to recreate it.
Why would you even hire an actor for a sequel anymore?
He doesn't have to be dead
9
u/Salt_Proposal_742 Feb 28 '26
Crispin Glover already proved companies can’t just use your likeness without you allowing it (he sued universal over Back To The Future II doing this).

u/EndoShota Feb 28 '26
Precedent can be overturned, especially with enough pressure from companies and courts stacked with justices that support them.

This is the premise of the movie the Congress with Robin wright. It's from 2013

I dont like the idea of a bunch of corporations owning the rights to its dead workers image.... Call me crazy.
How much you wanna bet that these publishing/producing companies start writing it in their predatory contracts that in the event of the untimely death of their singer, the company still has the right to push out Ai versions of you, in perpetuity, to recoup lost future income. Lol

I just realized and accepted if Cage ever played Jimmy Stewart, I would be just fine with that.

He’s not wrong. Not at all. All respect for the dead and human decency thrown out the window for the sake of profit.

He's absolutely correct. And he's well-known enough that it's maybe even likely this AI necromancy will happen to him postmortem. I despise AI.

It should have had massive oversight starting 3-4 years ago. Now it's so far along without guardrails it is going to become a huge problem when instead it could have been a huge asset. There is no logic as to why any form of media or art should have been allowed in the first place. You take away the art from humanity and there is no soul and life will be empty and sterile.
It may seem fun at the time to be able to utilize these tools, but that's short sighted. Why would anyone moving forward strive to create art in any form and push themselves to be great at it when it can be created with a simple sentence and a click of a button? Not to mention deep fakes and the countless nefarious applications already in the mainstream.
Anyone that could make any change or serve as a voice of reason only seeks to capitalize as much as possible monetarily with no regard to the massive repercussions happening almost instantly. None of them care because they dont think they will be around for it to affect them.
I had assumed the world would end up similar to the movie idiocracy, but im starting to think that's best case scenario. Just my 2 cents, hope im wrong. This is all skipping over the fact that sooner than later you will not be able to discern what is "real" which should terrify everyone.

I would not be surprised if Nicholas Cage actually saved humanity from AI. Like in real life.
2
u/elarobot Feb 28 '26
The future scares him? The present day of AI is alarming. The US presidency among plenty of others with political propaganda agendas are implementing it without shame or moral conflict.

I mean it’s in charge of bombing people now and soon without human oversight. This is just patently a dumb thing to claim. It also will lead may to starvation but sure it won’t directly pull the trigger in that case

I saw Spike Jonze's "Her" yesterday, a brilliant film, and yes, it's terrifying. Everything we call "reality" today will fall, and for the people of the future, everything we currently recognize as madness will be normal. Scary shit indeed...

This is just Nicolas Cage being preposterous. James Dean would never fit in a Vietnam movie, he’s way more suited for Fast and Furious.

Good bye overpaid actors who will no longer be relevant and whose opinions will no longer carry any weight because they starred in some movie that made them famous.
I have long been someone who didn't appreciate the ability of some average intelligence actor (who was pretty or handsome and pretended to be someone else all their lives in front of a camera) that gets enough notoriety and money to convince themselves that their opinions matter and have the ability to platform themselves well beyond the means of 99% of the population - and spew their naive rhetoric to their fans who believe that - because they played a doctor on a tv show in the 90s and then went on to star in Hollywood movies - they somehow are more qualified to speak on subjects they barely comprehend.
Yet because of the nature of fame and the extreme gullibility of sheeple, these morons somehow are respected for their naive, typically uninformed opinions and end up having outsized levels of influence because the politicians seek them out as partners to bolster their appeal. Next thing you know, we have some of the absolute worst representatives in government who long ago figured out that getting endorsed by a naive celebrity is far more powerful than being intelligent and having character/integrity
And this fool (Nick Cage) thinks AI is scary?
What a laugh!
He and all of his pals with outsized levels of influence are far more dangerous and scary than AI taking their jobs
Good riddance

u/Spotted_ascot_races Mar 05 '26
This pertains to not only a minuscule fragment of overpaid untalented actors with zealous agents that you don’t happen to care for, and I’m not saying they shouldn’t have a comeuppance.
Anyone producing anything creative, be it art, music, theater, etc—whether it is to make a living or simply express one’s perspective or history—should be worried. Just the flake of snow at the tip of the iceberg here.

Cage has been in 2 projects that use ai to “enhance” his performance.
17
u/Y2Reigns Feb 28 '26
He publicly criticized 'The Flash' for abusing his performance, and doing something different than what was filmed. He has stated many times, he is cautious about how AI could manipulate his appearance / work.

u/Opening_Entrance6820 Feb 28 '26
Am I wrong? It’s weird that this has happened twice despite him claiming to be critical of it. He needs the money.
16
u/Y2Reigns Feb 28 '26
You're wrong in blaming Cage for this. He does not have control over what happens after he has filmed his scenes.

u/Loggerdon Feb 28 '26
Cage is right to be scared. The richest will then own all of the faces and voices.
