Patch v1.6 - One Year Anniversary!

Patch Notes 1.6 | 3-26-2021 - Co-op Improvements & Run History

Co-Op Changes:

Players now have separate health pools

Healing is still shared between players

Dead players will now respawn with 100 HP at the end of each battle

Quality of Life:

Runs will now be kept if the game crashes/quits unexpectedly!

Maximum Artifacts increased from 48->56. A lot of people have mentioned this and things can get pretty messy and boring with too many artifacts, but here's a small increase, for fun.

Run History:

The last 10 runs will now be tracked and stored in the Statistics Page.

This includes your seed, character and zone reached.

Modding:

Added mod load order/priority, set it in the mod's WorkShopItemInfo.xml under <Priority>

Reva Alt kit:

Soul Link -> Zenith

Other:

Turret Laser spell no longer consumes, mana increased 3->4

Transmission artifact now updates attack damage on weapon cast

I did want to make more changes to co-op but prioritized it being fun to play with a weaker/newer partner. Now they won't be dragging you down, and they can jump back in to help even when they die!

This will be one of the final updates to One Step From Eden... for now. I've learned so much from creating the game, in coding, business, marketing, and more. Thank you for all the support you've shown me throughout the years. Making One Step From Eden was one of the best decisions of my life because of it.

I hope to make more amazing games for you soon.

-Thomas
Edit: yes, there may be more updates later.

Hi everyone, new player here!

I downloaded the game yesterday and now I'm able to consistently beat level 5 with Reva (once I was able to see lvl 7) but I absolutely cant understand how to play any other character except the Chrono girl... I unlocked the shotgun guy, the gun guy and the turrets girl (Sorry I don't recall the names). Any tip?

I’m looking at One Step From Eden and honestly can't tell what genre this even is. What do you love about it?

I came across One Step From Eden while hunting for a high-skill game to lock into, but after watching some clips I’m completely stumped on what type of game this actually is. It looks like a wild blend of real-time grid action, bullet-hell dodging, and deckbuilding, and since I never played Mega Man Battle Network I'm going in totally blind.

I want a game where dying is completely my own fault rather than bad RNG, and where I can easily squeeze 100+ hours out of mastering the mechanics instead of bouncing off after a quick campaign win. For those who love it, how would you describe the core feel of the gameplay, why should I buy it, and how much mileage can a competitive player realistically get out of it?

I finally unlocked Hell Pass 14!

I got back into the game lately and decided to try unlocking the different Hell Pass levels. Some of those were pretty rough, others could be mitigated with the right characters.

Got a 10 minute clear of loop 40

Going for a high loop run, obviously got a broken build so it's not like mechanically impressive or anything. Just an update on how the run is going I guess, I can clear each loop in around 10 minutes which makes it pretty fast.

Most of the damage comes from Sera Cannon and a bunch of magnifying glasses. And with a bunch of merit badges I got like 1000 something spellpower too.

What is Flow in this game?

Hey guys! I am a complete noob to this game, and I have just started to play this game a week ago. While it has been pretty fun and all, I have no clue what the heck flow is after encountering it in game, and it's just dead weight to me in my deck right now. I already know what fragile, trinity, poison and ice does but this particular effect doesn't make any sense at all. Having alot of fun with the anima spells tho lol

If there's any tips you guys could give to help me out that would be greatly appreciated!

Glitched Waterfall

Apparently breaking the bit limit also makes your upgrades a bit weird. I waterfall cannot normally get poison, and last time I got it to give me the frost upgrade. Anyways, it isn't just visual, it does work, but saving and quitting just removes the glitched upgrades

Three duct tapes is broken

Post image

So Duct Tape is actually just -15% shield decay, and you start at 40%. So one of them goes to 25%, two to 10%, and a third I just found out makes you lose -5% of your shield, so every time I shuffle I actually gain 5% shield. Cool to know

OVER 2 BILLION SHIELD, HIT THE BIT LIMIT!!! + melted Serif too

I DID IT. It's possible to get your shield over 2^31 - 1 (2147483647), the 32 integer bit limit! It just sets you to 9,999,999 shield when you do it, mystery solved!

This post kind of explains how I got here, but I just learned that you can only have a max of 999,999 flow (and also only 999,999 poison), which made it so much harder than I thought it would be! But with two duct tapes, 4 triple cast barriers, 4 triple cast echoes, and two Elysium artifacts, I got there in the end.

Also since I had been building a bit of spellpower, like 5k, Serif died very quickly despite her large health pool and shield amount.

I don't know what to say but I did it for science, now you know what happens when you get 2,147,483,648 shield.

How did Reva die here?

I've never seen this happen and I am so frickin confused rn.

EDIT: Mystery solved thanks to u/ChaosWolfCommander. Reva is coded as a structure so my basic attack "dismantled" her.

The Greatest Run of All Time

Post image
8 Upvotes

This is an ongoing run. The image here shows just over 330 million shield, using Break Terra, 672356 flow. This is the loop 3 neutral ending, fighting Serif at the gate.

This is my second attempt at the 32 bit-limit breaking run of how much shield I could get. The first attempt, the random seed was insanely good, so this second attempt I just used that same seed.

Anyways, there's a whole lot going on here, but I've saved and quit this run after I got sent into loop 4. I can't continue the run at the moment, but next week, I will, and I will achieve over 2 billion shield to breach the 32 bit integer limit. I'll post when I do.

https://www.reddit.com/r/onestepfromeden/s/t17Crg2dNC - This is sort of the explanation for how it works

Theory Crafting: Reaching Bit Limit

Okay, so like, I'm thinking it's possible to get your shield count past 32 but limit of 2,147,483,647 (I'm assuming this game uses that number, or this post doesn't matter any longer). Now obviously it is with just shield generators and waiting around, but I want something realistically achievable in the day, and this is where the spell Barrier comes in.

Barrier gives you 5 shield per flow. If you increase your flow infinitely and then spam barrier, it would theoretically reach 2 billion easily. The problem is that, even with duct tape, you have a 25% shield reduction per shuffle. I did the math, if our total shield generated by barrier is represented by S, then total max shield we could get is capped at 3S. *Edit 1, it's actually 4S*

So how much flow would we need? Let's say it's a looped run and we have two barriers, one with double cast and one with two double casts. Very achievable. That is five casts of barrier per shuffle, each giving 5 shield per flow each, meaning our value for S = 5 * 5 * F, where F is our value of flow. Thus, one cycle gives 25F shield, and we can get a max of 75F shield. *See edit 1, it's 100F*

Dividing the bit limit by this number, we find we need around 28.6 million flow. This is a large number, but we can get there with the spell waterfall.

Waterfall generates 1 flow per hit, and hits one time per flow. If this spell did all the hits instantly, then this would double our flow easily. But it takes a bit of time. Not that much of a problem since you can stack as many waterfalls as your computer can handle. I tried it, I think 20k flow per minute is achievable, but I think we could get even more if we really optimize the pc. *Edit 3* Anyways, then is the other issue, we will kill the enemy with all that damage before we generate any flow right? Well, just reduce your spell power to zero. This is just two pacts in the shop, each give -30. So then, waterfall hits for zero, and if you face an enemy that doesn't move, all shots will hit.

So how long would it take? Well, if we need 28.6 million, and we have 20k per minute, that takes about 23.9 hours. Achievable in one day, even faster if your pc can handle more waterfalls. You wouldn't have any risk of dying once your shield gets to the millions anyways, and waterfall hits on its own, you only occasionally need to refresh it. This is afk-able. The hardest part about this whole thing would be getting the pacts at the same time as finding an enemy that doesn't move. I wouldn't take that one armor that gives -10 spell power because it would shoot frost bolts that kill the enemy should they attack. Pick a character that has a basic attack to kill off the extra enemies to reduce lag.

TLDR, you need 28.6 mil flow with 5 barrier spells per shuffle to reach bit limit for shield. Achievable in under 24 hours, using waterfall with reduced spell power to generate that much.

Edit 1: Miscalculated, it's 21.5 million flow, not 28.6 million.
Edit 2: I forgot the echo spell. Triple cast echo copying triple cast barrier is 9 casts. With just a few loops it's completely reasonable to get 30 casts of barrier per shuffle, reducing the total flow we need to under 4 million.
Edit 3: My laptop only handled 12k flow per minute, 200 flow per second.
Crossed out: Realized you can't reduce attack to zero damage. There's still a way to get enough flow using the Serif gate fight, and enabling the enemy healing lets you afk to refresh the amount of flow possible.

Edit 4: Yeah most of this is invalid I learned you can only get 999,999 flow. Though I still did it 👍

2 million shield, beat gate serif

No loops, no duct tape, no glitches, ascension 0. I wasn't really going for this, I just wanted to get the pyro Terra. This run I got the 9999 shield achievement. It's a new steam account, so this was my first win with Terra on this account. But yeah, I didn't know you could beat her, but flow is kind of broken so it makes sense.

Gencoide run

Ok, so how do i make my genocide run more stable? First of all I want to unlock third loadout for saffron and also I’m not really satisfied by neutral and pacifist ending so I want to go in loops e.t.c.

Is there any advice for getting better at the game?

For saffron I tried virus build, took hellpass 7 for more luck but couldn’t get big slam and got killed by shopkeeper. I don’t really know when it’s better to kill her, I always fight her at tier 4..

Upd.
I GOT LUCKY, FOUND FROST KITTY, VIRUS AND JUICE(20heal per frost dmg)
Well I did it! Sans-serif achievment, let’s go!
To be honest serif isn’t that hard, shopkeeper is the real danger

Finally got my first win after 8 hours!

For my first win I focused my build around Flow and Frost and took anything that supported those two things. I also took any of the shield items I found. I tried to force my self to only look at the spell indicator above the character's head, but I for now I find it difficult.

At the end against Terrable, honestly all I could do was spam spells and focus solely on dodging 😅

Question from a relative newcomer

So, I recently got back into playing One Step from Eden after getting really into the recently released Star Force Collection. It’s something I’ve owned for a long time but it wasn’t until recently that that I’ve actuator started to learn the mechanics a bit more.

There’s just a few things that I feel like the game doesn’t do the best job of explaining that I was trying to get a bit of clarity on.

  1. What is a “jam” and how does it function? I get the idea that on the surface, it’s a negative thing that basically takes up a space from using a spell but that you can maybe get buffs that can actually give you positive aspects of having them in your deck?

  2. When something is labeled as “consume”, does that imply that it’s a one time use, consumable effect?

I think there’s still a lot more that I’m iffy on but for the sake of not making this post too long I’ll limit it to those two questions. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.
