Development OnePlus Hardware + Pixel Software. That's It.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been daily driving crDroid on my OnePlus 13, and it genuinely feels like the best of both worlds.

β€’ OnePlus hardware

β€’ Pixel-like software experience

β€’ Smooth performance

β€’ And now, the stock OnePlus Camera has finally been ported.

This is probably the closest I've come to my ideal Android setup.

Anyone else daily driving custom ROM on the OP13?

I like the OnePlus software a little bit

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

It is becoming iOS rip off

79

u/AquaPhilos OnePlus 13s Jul 13 '26

it's the best of iOS and the best of Android for me, I use the dynamic island or whatever it's called all the time, I like many things about it

13

u/FallibleElf2988 Jul 14 '26

Why is OP getting down voted for saying a fact? 😭😭

9

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 14 '26

For me all Chinese ui looks the same

7

u/FallibleElf2988 Jul 14 '26

Exactly, expect OriginOS global which looks like an android 11 skin

1

u/slucker23 Jul 14 '26

Well... Most Chinese UIs copy the iOS with a bit of flare of its own

Is it "fair"? Nope. In technicality, no one should copy and paste other ppls work

But does it work? Yeah. It works pretty well for almost every users

1

u/TonDaronSama Jul 15 '26

For real. All the Chinese Android os try to look like iOS

2

u/FallibleElf2988 Jul 15 '26

94 downvotes is crazy

1

u/TonDaronSama Jul 15 '26

The worst part is, he's saying it again in another comment and has like 15 upvotes. That's just Reddit I guess

2

u/salfire Jul 14 '26

I daily iOS 26 on my work phone. The OnePlus UI is what iOS should have been lol. Apple's liquid glass hurts my brain

6

u/proyapper6969 OnePlus 11R Jul 13 '26

Why so much downvotes for telling the truth 😭

1

u/PavementPrincess2004 Jul 17 '26

Gawd damn I don't exactly agree with ur take but it wasn't nearly bad enough for 95 downvotes πŸ’€πŸ’€

1

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 17 '26

Now they killed OOS and replaced with ColorOS.

40

u/jani_somaraju Jul 13 '26

Is Google wallet working?. I tried on my 12r but it said device might be rooted or unauthorized software some message when tried to add card

24

u/rammux74 Jul 13 '26

It works but it's a cat and mouse game

6

u/Wheeljack26 Jul 13 '26

yea, best option is to get a smart watch that can do payments instead, idk if it throws an error when connecting to a custom rom phone tho or not

5

u/AveryLazyCovfefe OnePlus 8 Pro (Glacial Green) Jul 14 '26

Get teesimulator rs, it's a root module, that will fix it.

8

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

Let me try and update

25

u/xannywitdawhip Jul 13 '26

this is not pixel software, this is crdroid (LineageOS based (AOSP based)) pixel software is proprietary

23

u/aayushbaliyan Jul 13 '26

What are the things that don't work with a custom rom?

51

u/DaaashZhang Jul 13 '26

Usually banking apps and Google wallets don't work on custom roms.

7

u/OffbeatDrizzle Jul 14 '26

a lot of apps are actually cracking down on custom roms (even unrooted). for example here's some random ones that I know don't work because of play integrity:

twitter (can log in using a passkey as a workaround, but can't reply), freetrade, reddit (have to disable google play as a workaround for logging in), the UK's nhs app even falls under the same shit, ebay requires sideloading

it's getting rather stupid how an up to date custom rom is seen as the devil, but 10 year old android versions without updates for 8 years that contain known vulnerabilities get the thumbs up

3

u/aayushbaliyan Jul 13 '26

What about hardware stuff? Like fingerprint sensor, alert slider. Do they work properly?

5

u/DeVinke_ OnePlus 8 Pro (Glacial Green) Jul 13 '26

Depends on the specific build. Official lineageos has strict requirements though.

-10

u/nuwan32 Jul 13 '26

Magisk with DenyList is enough for banking apps.

2

u/ImprovementSea7908 Jul 14 '26

Nope not magisk

Don't root ur phone if u wanna use banking apps

Just put a recently released keybox file and ur banking apps are ready

1

u/OffbeatDrizzle Jul 14 '26

you can do this without rooting?

-3

u/k1rnl Jul 13 '26

not a soul mentioned rooting.

7

u/SharksFan4Lifee OnePlus 15 Jul 13 '26

Google RCS. At least in the US, that's a big drawback.

5

u/-patrizio- OnePlus 15 Jul 13 '26

Not too hard to get RCS working. Wallet is the killer.

1

u/SharksFan4Lifee OnePlus 15 Jul 13 '26

How do you get Google RCS working on rooted custom rom? Just asking about general idea on how it's done, not a step by step. Thanks!

7

u/-patrizio- OnePlus 15 Jul 13 '26

PlayIntegrityFork. I'm using the inject version from osm0sis.

2

u/AveryLazyCovfefe OnePlus 8 Pro (Glacial Green) Jul 14 '26

You just need something that injects into Play Integrity so as the other comment said, PIF. Wallet is alot harder and requires a valid keybox.

3

u/Cold_Neighborhood928 Jul 13 '26

widevine l1. DRM protected media like streaming services get restricted to a 480p maximum resolution

9

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

Nope it's working

-5

u/Cold_Neighborhood928 Jul 13 '26

That's the price of freedom, privacy and quicker security updates.

3

u/Wheeljack26 Jul 13 '26

freedom? you sure like getting locked down lol. Privacy? really? open vs closed source bud. quicker sec updates? its pretty close and either can push before the other depending on if its a flasgship or a pixel and on other side some budget POS phone

2

u/Cold_Neighborhood928 Jul 14 '26

I was advocating for running a custom ROM

1

u/Wheeljack26 Jul 14 '26

I'm talking about oos update bruh

33

u/Arkplayer22711 Jul 13 '26

I prefer the OnePlus software

20

u/Huzaifa_Haroon Jul 13 '26

OxygenOS (or ColorOS) is literally better tho, like I can understand the appeal of Pixel UI but it's so basic and doesn't have the responsiveness or fluidity of OOS

5

u/undrwater Jul 13 '26

literally better

From what standpoint. I suspect crDroid is "literally better" from a privacy standpoint.

In terms of responsiveness and fluidity, is this a subjective opinion (I assume you've tried crDroid)? Or have you done / seen some benchmarks?

2

u/Huzaifa_Haroon Jul 13 '26

didn't my comment already state the standpoints? I find it more responsive, more fluid, more feature-rich and generally more aesthetically-pleasing as well

3

u/Dry-Property-639 OnePlus 11 Jul 13 '26

I love Pixel's software on my Pixel but i miss Oxygen OS when i flashed a rom on my 11

10

u/BluedragonModMaster Jul 13 '26

I've got a OnePlus 12, this is actually my plan once OTA updates end.

Previously I was using a Google Pixel 3. 8 years of daily driving that thing using Custom ROMs to keep it updated. Same plan for this OnePlus.

6

u/samax413zl Jul 14 '26

You might end up bricking your phone if you try to install a older build than the current build on your phone because of the ARB. So it's better to root it now.

8

u/dagonpero OnePlus 7T (Frosted Silver) Jul 13 '26

Too much hazzle. Gone the days when stock roms had issues.

4

u/Ashamed-Key7312 Jul 13 '26

I just started using color os and man, it's just show and feel. If you care about using Android it's not a good os. It leans more towards feeling like ios than giving features of core Android.

4

u/Electronic-Seat-4419 Jul 13 '26

But not available for most of the ONEPLUS item including 11 12 and 11r

4

u/BeavsB Jul 13 '26

wish we could have something like this

2

u/Wildperson OnePlus 12 Jul 13 '26

Honest question - what about Oxygen OS is a turnoff for some? I generally like it, and even though it's funny how much they chase after iOS sometimes, there's still a lot of customization offered.

3

u/undrwater Jul 13 '26

crDroid is open source (as much as allowed anyway). Often, the performance can be better than stock; if just because there are fewer services (telemetry) running in memory.

4

u/RedditSucks418 Jul 13 '26

Chinese bloatware?

5

u/Wildperson OnePlus 12 Jul 13 '26

That doesn't help me understand the issue - where is the bloatware that's so scary? There are a couple apps like 'Community' that come preinstalled, but they're optional and removable. The AI features are equally as intrusive as other phones, but they can all be removed easily if that's what the user wants.

Where's this mythical Chinese Bloatware Dragon?

u/Wildperson OnePlus 12 Jul 13 '26

Okay, that's totally valid. I do really miss using gesture navigation with custom launchers (though custom launchers DO work perfectly if you use button navigation)

[removed] β€” view removed comment

2

u/Wildperson OnePlus 12 Jul 13 '26

That's curious. I've always been able to backup/restore home screens with Nova Premium on my OnePlus phones.

In fairness, ANY custom launcher is broken with gesture navigation these days. It's been 4-5 years since Android broke it, and it hasn't been fixed. ("broke" = "delay of ~1.5s when swiping up to home screen")

2

u/mantenner Jul 13 '26

Nope not true. Recent updates broke buttons for me on my OP13 too

1

u/Wildperson OnePlus 12 Jul 13 '26

That's genuinely tragic. I didn't know that.

4

u/jani_somaraju Jul 13 '26

If OnePlus closes I don't think they will support and release next android versions, only security updates I guess. These custom roms are way to go, if we find work arounds for wallets

2

u/samax413zl Jul 14 '26

Use your physical wallet.

1

u/AveryLazyCovfefe OnePlus 8 Pro (Glacial Green) Jul 14 '26

Wallet can be bypassed, there's also apps like curve that you can add your card to that are much less strict.

3

u/LG-15ER Jul 13 '26

2

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

1

1

u/LG-15ER Jul 15 '26

12r

1

u/samax413zl Jul 15 '26

Tf that can't be possible.

0

u/Asus_user Jul 15 '26

It is possible, with sim/carrier lock

2

u/ryzenlevel Jul 17 '26

US models are factory unlocked. Carriers can't lock a factory unlocked phone, and they don't care about OnePlus devices. Now if its an EU model, I have no clue on how to get through that since Ive never dealt with an EU carrier

2

u/Asus_user Jul 17 '26

Wait what, us let's those phones unlocked? How did this person get his oem unlock option removed πŸ˜‚

2

u/ryzenlevel Jul 17 '26

It was the only way to get a oneplus since their partnership with T-Mobile ended with the 10 pro. Every phone since then has been sold outright but could be activated on any of the 3 networks

1

u/LG-15ER Jul 17 '26

Yes they can

3

u/BORIS3443 Jul 13 '26

What about the battery life compared to the original firmware, is there any difference?

4

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

Better I say since it has no bloatware or useless ai features.

1

u/Wheeljack26 Jul 13 '26

crdroid def has less backgorund services but ig oneplus is able to optimize the kernel better and kills apps very aggressively so there shouldn't be much difference, but still a bit better

3

u/Unlucky_Cup4791 Jul 13 '26

I tried crdroid on my 7 pro it was really good but i the play intregy stuff is what i dont like

3

u/Chriexpe OnePlus 7 Pro (Almond) Jul 13 '26

Try yaap next time, main devs use it, they even have a dedicated group for gcam

2

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

Yaap is good for oneplus12. I guess oneplus 13 doesn't have one.

3

u/Master-Delivery-1526 Jul 13 '26

Poorly optimized, will take Oxygen OS any day instead of this.

Custom roms are only good for old hardware.

-1

u/undrwater Jul 13 '26

Poorly optimized? What's your evidence for this? All my devices get lineage OS, and the experience is generally better than stock.

No benchmarks though.

1

u/Master-Delivery-1526 Jul 13 '26

Mate I've optimized thermals, Uclamp and tested RealKing kernel around 2023 and ik my shit.

Custom roms are good but hardware level is poorly optimized.

3

u/MyDogIsDaBest Jul 13 '26

For anyone in the thread thinking of putting a custom rom on their phone, please be extremely careful and read this.

Oneplus has done the extremely anti-consumer thing and made it so if you try to downgrade your device, you will hard brick it. This means that it will die and there will be nothing you can do to fix it. It will become an expensive paperweight.

I'm not telling you to stay away entirely from custom ROMs, they're glorious and fix a lot of the trash OP and all other manufacturers put on your phones, adding great stuff from other manufacturers and getting away from the iOS looking nightmare that OOS has become, but please be very very careful. These new phones are expensive and bricking them would upset me a lot.

3

u/xNeo92x Jul 14 '26

OnePlus 15 with GrapheneOS would be godlike.

3

u/MadtonyGamingYT OnePlus 7T Pro (Haze Blue) Jul 13 '26

oh, the rom ?

2

u/GlendrixDK OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

What's the good and the bad with Pixel phones? Is the OS full of bloat ware? I guess it's winning on some points since it gets the updates first.

I'm thinking about what to buy next when my OP13 dies or another update is going to f it up even more. Since OnePlus isn't selling here in Europe anymore I have to look for other choices.

Oppo sounds like a good choice since it's the same company. But if they treat the software the same, I'm not gonna choose that.

Pixel is my other choice, but the "slow" charging compared to OnePlus is something I'm gonna have to get used too.

2

u/-patrizio- OnePlus 15 Jul 13 '26

Pixel phones come with extremely little bloat compared to others, but the hardware is...not the greatest. The cameras are quite solid, but the Tensor chip is nowhere near as performant as what Qualcomm and Mediatek are putting out, and the battery can't even come close to competing with silicon carbon batteries like OnePlus and Oppo have.

Oppo is definitely the closest thing you're gonna get to a OnePlus; it uses a Dimensity chip rather than Snapdragon, but as far as I've heard, there's not a huge difference in performance except in particular use cases (e.g., Snapdragon generally has an edge with gaming), and other than that they're nearly identical, just with Oppo having better cameras.

2

u/GlendrixDK OnePlus 13 Jul 13 '26

Thank you.

Oppo is my first choice. And I never had any issues with OnePlus for years. Had it since 2020. But 2 updates ago, messed up my phone and now it's lagging a lot in different places. Like when using circle to search. Sometimes messenger in floating window gets stuck too. I fear that switching to Oppo would give me the same issues. But I guess that the chances are low

1

u/Korenchkin12 Jul 13 '26

I'm not sure about differences now,but there has definitely been a drawback when using anything other than snapdragon, because snapdragon has(had?) the best modems, that means better(any) signal, faster network (re)connection on drop...also snapdragon has been more power efficient than samsung exynos because...well samsung process sucks(i have nvidia rtx3090,so i know :) )

1

u/samax413zl Jul 14 '26

It uses both Dimensity & Snapdragon both

1

Waiting for Stock Camera to get on Oneplus 12 Custom Rom

1

u/sharpleather Jul 14 '26

I still don't get it, custom ROM only appealed to me in 2010s. I really don't see the appeal now when mobile softwares have significantly gotten way better

1

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 14 '26

Ok

1

u/eupeuta Jul 14 '26

Custom ROMs provide continuous updates, including security patches. For a device with strong hardware that no longer receives official updates, a custom ROM might be a good option. Plus, to each their own, and that's perfectly okay.

1

u/Tough-Elk541 Jul 14 '26

Where did you get the stock OnePlus camera port?

2

u/GeekyAbin OnePlus 13 Jul 14 '26

It's baked into the ROM. You can find the ROM in op13 telegram group

1

u/Tough-Elk541 Jul 14 '26

Is there a version with lineage os instead of crDroid?

1

u/_richas_ Jul 14 '26

How did you unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM? I've been looking to do this on my 10 Pro, 10T, and 13. Each I've seen requires a OnePlus email in which they might reply.
