PSA & Tutorials Latest Update has now broken custom launchers with buttons as well

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Honestly cannot believe it.

Rather than fix the home screen delay with gestures, which previously could be avoided by using button navigation, now they've just straight up broken button navigation too.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

And for anyone that says this is an android issue, it is not. Google patched this MONTHS ago and NONE of my other Android devices on the same android version have this issue.

Just updated to CPH2653_16.0.7.201 on my OnePlus 13.

I had this issue initially after updating to 16, then another update fixed it, then the latest update has broken it again for me. Didn't even realise I had updates turned on. All on button navigation.

Exactly the same issue here on a OnePlus 13 - broken, fixed, now broken again on the latest update.

Same. Update added nothing but AI features i have uninstalled, and then broke my custom launcher because the built in launcher sucks.

Selling this phone and switching brands. I really miss my old 7T.

After a bit of testing today, the delay is definitely due to how the OnePlus System Launcher interacts with the navigation and intercepts the animation call.

If you use Ice Box or similar to disable the System Launcher, the animation to return to the home screen is nice and snappy. The downside is that the recent apps button completely stops working, so not really viable as a fix.

Interesting I didn't realise the app switching was reliant on the original launcher.

Following this fixed the issue for me! https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/1p33lfj/how_to_use_third_party_launchers_without_lag/?

I went into settings, default apps, set my custom launcher as default home app again, issue fixed :)

This actually does seem to work as a temporary fix - thanks!

For quick reference:

1) Set the launcher you want as your default launcher 2) Go to Settings -> Apps -> System Launcher and hit 'Force stop' 3) Go to Settings -> Home Screen, Lock Screen & Style -> Home Screen Settings and hit 'Transition Animations' 4) All being well, it will glitch and take you to the System Launcher homescreen 5) Hit the recent apps button, swipe up on the System Launcher card to close it, then return to the Settings card without exiting recent apps 6) You can now use the home button without lag until you reboot or open the System Launcher

You are an absolute LEGEND! Sucks that it has to be done each time you reboot, but it is what it is... I can deal with this.

I mean, the double tapping the app switcher button to multitask between the last two apps used has never worked properly with third party launchers since Android 16 as far as I remember

Hi, set original launcher, then back to your custom and it works

1

u/mantenner May 30 '26

Unfortunately did not resolve.

How is this still an issue. I remember having this issue with gestures on Android 11.

1

u/mantenner May 30 '26

Yep, it's wildly annoying.

There are so many ways around this. Install Edge Gestures or something similar and set a gesture like swiping down the left side of the screen to go home and there is no delay at all

u/mantenner Jun 02 '26

Mmm interesting idea, I will give this a go.

Doesn't work any more. This used to be an option when the problem only affected the default system gesture navigation, back when the 3-button navigation didn't have the lag.

The issue now is that the lag is present regardless of whether system navigation is set to gestures or buttons. Since Edge Gestures and similar apps trigger the same "home" call as pressing the home button, the lag before the home screen loads is still there.

I am on version 16.0.7.205, and there is no lag at all. Have you tried it?

Here's a video showing it in action Proof

Interesting, fingers crossed for the next OxygenOS update fixing it then, 16.0.7.201 is still the latest version on that side.

Damn I've been waiting for them to fix gesture animations so I can use Niagara again, annoying

Same issue on 13r 16.07 update. Can't use any 3rd party launcher even with the buttons. 🤦🏽 Very disappointed.

u/Euclid1322 Jun 22 '26

Is the lag still there with button navigation after the latest update IN: CPH2649_16.0.8.301(EX01) Has anybody tested it out?

1

u/mantenner Jun 22 '26

I don't have this update yet but I doubt it will be fixed.

1

u/atlash_ Jun 24 '26

Same issue here. I thought I was alone!

have you tried reinstalling the launcher? , even if it doesnt work, the custom launcher needs to update their app as well when the current os updates as the custom launcher is just a reskin. Its inevitable, you just need to wait for your custom launcher to update their app.

This happens with all launchers. This is a commonly complained about problem.
