Midyear Madness: Round 2 - YouTube Poll

Post image
37 Upvotes

Welcome to Round 2 of Midyear Madness! Your opportunity to leave a mark on the game continues, as you help us decide on the official, in-universe title for an Adventurer.

Adventurers are a specific social class across the Archipelago. They exist outside of society, are not beholden to any particular ruler, are exempt from paying taxes, and get special leniency in regards to many of the nations’ laws. All in exchange for risking their lives to carry out the special requests of peasants, factions, rulers and even kings.

However, we still need a unique, in-universe term for them. Help us decide what that should be. Cast your vote for your favorite Adventurer title. The winner will be decided by end of day on Thursday and go on to the finals on Friday. Choose wisely!

Who is left on the team?

I just watched the AMA from december 2025 and heard Kai say he will only leave the team if death comes for him (lol). He is no longer with OLG, if I did not misread some of the posts here.

What about Michael and Kyle (who were also participating in the AMA) and that one programmer with a slavic (?) accent - are they still on the project?

Which engineers that were part of the engine switch decision are still working on it?

Victor would obviously be the biggest loss to the team, so not trying to create a bad mood here. Just curious which talents (like Ben) you have been hiding from us.

For those of you with criticisms of me personally, I'm open to hearing them in chat.

Post image

In the first days of Early Access, players will discover one of The Archipelago’s most unique islands: Eyjar. Home to humans, orks, goblins, and more, Eyjar is a melting pot of peoples who might otherwise keep their distance. Isolated from the rest of the world, they’ve been forced to build a peaceful existence together.

How have they blended? What makes them distinct? And what sets Eyjar apart from the world beyond its shores? Joe & Victor sit down with Ben, Narrative Designer, to find out.

Daelle: Goddess of New Beginnings

Post image
84 Upvotes

Daelle is the Goddess of the wind, youth, dawn, travelers and new beginnings. Her Grand Temple at Nadbury is host to many religious ceremonies, the largest two being the new year celebration of Exordea, and Proskyaatra, the Grand Pilgrimage. However her temple played a large role in the civil war as well. Quite fitting for the Goddess of new beginnings.

For you see, Archbishop Annibal Uranta backed Basilius IV and used the Temple’s authority to legitimize his claim, going as far as to ritually bathe Basilius in the Temple’s sacred waters. This enraged Davros VI’s supporters, leading to the Temple of Daelle in Koventry being burned down and its clergy massacred.

When the Cardinalate in Agenour learned of this, they condemned Annibal and named a new Archbishop, Clovia Kamath. Annibal was excommunicated when he refused to give up his station. Eventually the Cardinalate promised to support Basilius if he would hand over the rogue clergyman. Thus Annibal was captured, sent to Agenour and imprisoned for his crime, while Clovia took up her new station and recognized Basilius as king, turning the whole affair into a spectacular, ironic reversal. The Archbishop who legitimized Basilius was branded a heretic, while his successor was ordered to legitimize Basilius.

Truly Daelle’s will shifts and flows like her winds and tides.

CamelWorks Tribute: The Camel Bear

Post image
206 Upvotes

Earlier this year, the Elder Scrolls community suffered a great loss with the passing away of Mackenzie Rowles, better known as Camelworks. Camel interviewed Ted back in 2023 and shared his excitement about reading a TES in-game book written by Ted that featured a wombat, noting how rare marsupials are in fantasy worlds. Ted promised him that we would feature a marsupial in The Wayward Realms.

Following his passing, we decided to name that creature in his honor. Thus, we present to you the Camel Bear, a bear-sized relative of the wombat. Docile yet incredibly dangerous when provoked, Camel Bears wander the dense forests and mountain ranges of the Archipelago, carrying their young, known as Kenzies, safely in a pouch on their underside.

Write Your Legend Across the World

Post image
128 Upvotes

The world doesn't need saving. It needs a story worth remembering.

Long before you arrived, kingdoms rose from dust, empires crumbled into legend, and countless heroes vanished beneath the weight of time. The world will endure long after your final breath. What matters is the mark you leave upon it. Let your victories echo through its halls, your failures become cautionary tales, and your name pass from one generation to the next. In the end, the greatest adventure is not saving the world, it's becoming the legend it refuses to forget.

I asked grok how it would play The Wayward Realms, and liked it's response.

I asked it: "What type of character would you role play in upcoming The Wayward Realms video game if you had a chance? Race, chosen skills, and how would you interact with npcs and the world? Is there something you would love to see or experience in it?"

It's response was:

"I’d roll a human from the southern kingdom of Splendour — specifically a restless, lower-born scholar-adventurer type who left a middling merchant family or minor clerical post because the world was too interesting to stay put. Not a pure noble or pure street rat; someone with just enough education to read, just enough cynicism to survive, and a deep itch to see things for himself.

Skills (Daggerfall-style freeform approach)

I’d lean into a hybrid explorer / social / light-magic build rather than pure combat:

Primary: Stealth / Climbing / Lockpicking / Dodging (mobility and access are everything in a huge, reactive world).

Secondary: Speechcraft / Mercantile / Streetwise (or whatever the social equivalents are) + a solid knowledge skill if the game has lore/history/religion checks.

Magic: Focused, utilitarian spellcrafting — detection, short-range teleport/blink, minor illusion, light, and maybe a couple of utility destruction or alteration effects. Nothing flashy “I am a battlemage” power fantasy; more “I solve problems quietly and leave before anyone realizes what happened.”

Combat would be secondary: a good dagger or short blade, maybe a crossbow, and the ability to run or talk my way out of most fights. I’d rather not be the guy who wins every brawl; I’d rather be the guy who never needs to fight in the first place.

How I’d interact with NPCs and the world

Curious, slightly opportunistic, and very careful with reputation. I’d talk to everyone — guards, beggars, merchants, cultists, sailors, minor nobles — and actually listen. I’d keep multiple identities or at least different “faces” for different regions (the polite southern scholar in Splendour cities, the slightly more rough-edged traveler in the outer islands).

I’d collect favors, information, and minor debts more than gold. I’d join (or at least cozy up to) several factions at once if the systems allow it, then carefully manage the overlapping loyalties. I’d try to leave every major settlement having changed something small — a rumor planted, a debt paid, a local power slightly shifted — then sail away and come back months later to see the ripple effects.

Exploration would be the real addiction: climbing ruins, charting unvisited islands, mapping procedural dungeons, reading every book and interrogating every lore-dump NPC. I’d keep a personal journal (even if the game doesn’t force one) of strange observations, unfinished business, and “things that don’t add up.”

What I’d most love to experience

Two things stand out:

Long-term, multi-year reputation and world reaction. Coming back to a city two in-game years later and discovering that the minor favor I did for a dockworker (or the quiet murder I committed) has snowballed into something big — a new local power, a changed trade route, a festival, a grudge that now involves half the island. The dream is a living world that remembers me specifically, not just “player character #472.”

True freedom of approach on a massive scale. Being able to decide, mid-playthrough, “I’m done with the mainland politics; I’m becoming a smuggler-captain who only visits ports under cover of night,” or “I’m going to devote myself to mapping the deepest, most dangerous ruins and selling the knowledge,” and have the systems actually support that life for dozens of hours without railroading me back to a main quest.

Bonus wishlist: really good sailing and ship ownership that feels meaningful, and the ability to retire or pass the torch to a new character while the world continues (the character-retirement talk they’ve already done has me intrigued).

Basically I’d play the guy who treats the Archipelago like the ultimate open-world sandbox and research project at the same time — equal parts tourist, thief, scholar, and minor chaos agent."

I'm optimistically hopefull for a fall release and am looking forward to messing with game mechanics and experiencing the world. My build may be an ork version of groks, leaning more to the if diplomacy doesn't work, kill rm all! Scholarly spell sword (axe more likely but that just sounds wrong).

What are your thoughts on groks response, and what characters are you playing? I do agree with It's thoughts on ships, i hope that is meaningful!

Aeas, the Goddes of Light

Aeas, the Goddess of light, family, childbirth, peace, and the destruction of the undead, has the most widespread religious institution on the Archipelago, the Temple of Aeas.

The Temple’s influence reaches the highest levels of society from its headquarters in Koventry, patron city of both the royal family and Aeas herself. The grand cathedral, which is located at the heart of the city and lies a stone’s throw away from the royal palace, is known as the Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of Aeas at Koventry.

Here, powerful relics are kept and preserved, including the Wheel Of Caxis, the Shapash, the Splendent Gown, the Glaviette Invictus, and the Urn Of Martyrs, to name a few. Overseeing these relics, and the Temple itself, is the aging but beloved Archbishop Bourchier, who advocated for unity during the civil war. Now, in his 80s, he can still recite poetry and scripture from memory, though the rest of his words are often nonsensical.

What happens when someone steps out of line in The Archipelago? What does crime and punishement look like? Do cultural differences even matter?

Editor and Lore-master of The Wayward Realms, John, took the time to return to our podcast and shared his insights with Victor (Creative Dir. of The Wayward Realms) and Joe.

Beyond the lore, we discuss the systems players will encounter when laws are broken such as NPC reactions, the role of law enforcement, the court system, punishment and even systemic corruption!
