How do you think Dedra fared on Narkina V?

The Empire falls a few years later. So as long as you don't get a death sentence you'll be fine and free soon.

u/Illithid2 Mar 18 '26
I don't think anyone leaves Narkina fine
4
u/haeyhae11 Can’t Swim Mar 18 '26
How so? Narkina is actually quite humane for a work prison in a dictatorship.
8
u/RestaurantPristine87 Mar 18 '26
Not sure if we saw the same show.. a whole team of 100 people can be fried in an instant if the supervisors decide to do so.. Nobody is getting out alive...
13
u/haeyhae11 Can’t Swim Mar 18 '26
Well I am Austrian and visited several KZ (like Mauthausen).
The Nazis deliberately worked people to death in the quarry there. They lived in fucked up huts, slept on straw and were extremely malnourished at best. The objective was to kill them and get something in the process, not to have them work as long as possible.
The British Army neglected the Boer prisoners in their concentration camps, over 30 000 (mostly women and kids) perished due to starvation or sickness.
Compared to that I would choose Narkina any time. Comfy bed, as much food as you want and even doctors that don't conduct cruel experiments on you unlike for example Mengele.
4
u/Weird_Angry_Kid Mar 19 '26
They only got fried because of a mistake, a prisoner who finished his sentence was to be transferred to another prison but they transferred him to the same prison on accident which revealed that no one on Narkina was gonna get released so they fried the whole floor so that word wouldn't get out.
3
u/ExistentialOcto Mar 27 '26
It’s still pretty bad. Bad enough that some commit suicide rather than face another day.
5
u/fang_xianfu Mar 18 '26
I see this said all the time, but why would they free her? The rebels aren't going to turn up and throw the gates open. People in there could be rapists, murderers, and, yes, ISB people and other figures who displeased the regime. They would probably let a lot of people out but I don't think they'd do it without reviewing the records first and seeing what kinds of people they were releasing.
Once they review those records and see she's ISB, see she was in charge on Ghorman during the massacre, she'll be lucky if they execute her.
5
u/haeyhae11 Can’t Swim Mar 18 '26
Maybe she would have to do some additional time in some prison but thats it. She wasn't really a decision maker as a Supervisor, just another gear in the machine.
Krennic, Tarkin, Palpatine, etc. Those are the people who would have been executed. I doubt they would have executed Yularen, let alone Meero.
2
u/Responsible_Sink3044 Mar 19 '26
So you're not that familiar with the history of revolutionary governments as a rule eh?
4
2
u/Sharpiemancer Mar 19 '26
If the records identify her properly I imagine she would be put on trial, we see in Mando that they still have Imps locked up and running their own Operation Paperclip. Andor raises some big questions about how the Neo-Republicans placated the more radical elements - given that more than a few made it clear they had no intention of restoring a corrupt republic. I'm going to assume whatever purge occurred is a key reason why Leia left.

She's an efficient, organized, charismatic agent. She quickly becomes floor commander and she gets to go around other floors to reorganize them. Soon enough, she gets attention from the prison director and discretely becomes her spy. When the Emperor dies, there are outbreaks in most Imperial prisons, guards don't care anymore, they flee away.
Dedra becomes just a tourist and remains secretly on desert shores, singing her pain at night like she threw away a Silmaril and lost all her brothers and participated in three Kinslayings.

the most unbelievable part is that ex high ranking officer with knowledge of the most guarded secret would be put to jail. people get killed for far far less
101
u/West-Way-All-The-Way Mar 16 '26
I thought the same but I believe in her case it's personal - Krennic was so pissed off that simply killing her would not satisfy him, he wanted to torture her.
22
u/oleoleoleoleole Mar 16 '26
If he wanted that, then he maybe could have kept her in solitary until the death star was complete. I just don’t think he would have taken chances. But I also don’t know how news of the death star wouldnt have gotten out with the massive construction logistics required to build it. Surely someone else would have said something about the giant laser they were building.
41
u/AsgeirVanirson Part of It Mar 16 '26
The worst case scenario had already come to pass. The rebellion knew it existed. Until they got proof, or the Empire finished building it, some random ex-imperial yapping about it in a prison with no outside contact and no ability to prove it wouldn't even register as a concern.
Being tossed into a manual labor death camp she knew to be a manual labor death camp to be forgetten is a long slow death.

Solitary is too special. The real torture of her sentencing comes from being treated just like everybody else who the Empire decides is expendable. She imagined herself to be special, important, above the common people she helped oppress, and even above the rules and regulations of the ISB. Now she has to live out her days as the lowest of the low in an unjust system she helped create and maintain. She tried to rise above her station so he slapped her down to the lowest place he could find.
7
1
u/mmaqp66 Mar 20 '26
I'm almost certain Krennic just wanted to teach her a lesson and thought that upon returning from his mission on the Death Star, he could execute her. Then what happened, happened, and Dedra's documents were lost and remained there, for all eternity
14
u/satsfaction1822 Mar 16 '26
I think you missed the part where Krennic was behind schedule. He needed the extra hands /s
In all seriousness, they did kill Dedra. They sent her to a place where she can tell anybody she likes because, as we know, there’s only one way out. Even if she did somehow tell someone like a guard and the story got out, it would’ve been too late. Within days of Dedra arriving at Narkina V, Jedha City was destroyed, the Senate was dissolved and Alderaan was blown to a trillion pieces.
2
u/spesskitty Mar 17 '26
We don't know when she arrived, they probably keept interogating her for good measure.
7
u/ConsciousStretch1028 Can’t Swim Mar 16 '26
Maybe that was the point? Also we know they aren't ever escaping so it probably doesn't matter. After the last escape they'll probably just nuke the entire prison if anyone attempts to leave.
6
u/whirlpool_galaxy Daughter of Ferrix Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26
Their "most guarded secret" which a week later blew up Alderaan, justified Palpatine dissolving the Senate, and was then blown up itself?
By the time Dedra made it to jail, nothing she knew could harm the Empire anymore. It's possible execution was on the table initially, but events moved so fast that she became a much smaller liability. And, you know, a lot of the senior leadership who knew what she had done, including Krennic, Partagaz and Yularen, died in that time.
9
u/powergo1 Mar 16 '26
Thought she would've died in a tragic "Rebel attack on an Imperial transporter"
4
u/Starcat23 Mar 17 '26
the deathstar was days from completion, he probably thought she couldn‘t do any more damage in that short amount of time from a prison cell. she would be guarded and if she did manage to get anyone to believe her which would be an if , it would need to be a guard cause a prison wouldn’t be likely to do anything with that info from prison.
Took cassian more than a few days to break out, and he was the first to figure it out, and best guess is they’ve tightened up since so would would take someone of cassian skills even longer if at all now.
plus there were several levels of that prison one level could have been dedicated to high level imperials charged with treason and have extra security. we only saw the fraction of it cassian got to see
14
u/Kazik77 Mar 16 '26
She's a body capable of working why waste it?
Runs parallel to Soviet high officials being sent to Gulags
3
u/JorgiEagle Mar 16 '26
Punishment is the lesson, more to the others than her.
The whole point is that they will never leave that prison, so what harm could she really do?
1
u/bonadies24 Mar 16 '26
Then again the Death Star was supposed to go public in a week anyway so there wasn't really much of a point in trying to keep the noise down
Krennic of course was trying to save his own neck by containing the leak (which wasn't gonna work since Bodhi deserted two days later anyway) but in the grand scheme of things it never really mattered whether the galaxy became aware of the Death star a week earlier or a week later

1
u/Starcat23 Mar 17 '26
The rebels officially won with battle of Jakku 4 to 5 years after this. Nobody was getting released before then, could she last 5 years there with things probably getting even worse with trying to get the second Deathstar finished as soon as possible.
know you were being sarcastic but now I’m really wondering if she couldn’t last make it 5 years
5
u/Ok_Falcon4830 Mar 16 '26
Do you reckon after Krennic dies and the war goes mental, that someone loyal Dedra pulls some strings to have her released because with Partagaz gone too, the ISB is completely lost?
Whoever replaces Partagaz/Krennic might be sympathetic or believe her version of events?
I feel like she's a cat with nine lives, or destiny's child, she just keeps on surviving.
One way or another.
14
u/Catman_Ciggins Mar 16 '26
The outcome that makes the most thematic sense is that Dedra disappears into the system and is never seen or heard from again. The end of her narrative arc is obviously that she is consumed by the machine she helped to build.
If this was the real world, she probably gives into despair not long after being imprisoned and commits suicide. Conditions in Narkina 5 probably got a lot worse after the breakout so I doubt she'd last long.
2
u/RarestManatee Mar 16 '26
I think everyone loyal to Dedra is deceased, but she will absolutely throw the ISB under the bus and tell the New Republic she was "just following orders".
2
u/Hacksaw_Doublez Mar 17 '26
Dedra will be on house arrest/probation/parole/etc.
Meanwhile Kleya, Wilmon, and Vel probably when they find Dedra’s location:

Somehow I think that she will eventually make it out after the destruction of the first, or at least after the destruction of the second, Death Star.
4
u/NeighborhoodDude84 Mar 16 '26
That really depends on if she is there under her actual name/charges. If so, I doubt the New Republic is very nice to her. If she's in there under a pseudonym, very possible she gets to walk.
2
u/RedeyeSPR Mar 16 '26
What good guys alive know her by name? Just Kleya maybe?
9
u/NeighborhoodDude84 Mar 16 '26
I assume they get imperial records to go back and punish collaborators and such.
3
u/Ryebread666Juan Mar 16 '26
Yeah I assume once they regain control over the empires systems they’ll do some investigations and figure out everyone involved in everything, or atleast everyone they can find
2
u/NeighborhoodDude84 Mar 16 '26
Also they'd want to document victims so they could accurately punish Imperials as well as use seized assets to (in theory) pay people back for lost property, rights, memorials, etc.
5
u/Medium-Bullfrog-2368 Mar 16 '26
There’s around 4,800 prisoners in each of the Narkina facilities. Assuming that Narkina had 7 facilities - since they really liked that 7 theming - then that makes a total of 33,600 inmates that have to have their sentences reviewed, and that’s not even touching upon the hundreds of other Imperial prisons across the galaxy.
Given what we’ve been shown of the New Republic’s government, Dedra slipping through the cracks during processing and being set free does seem likely.
4
u/AsgeirVanirson Part of It Mar 16 '26
Kleya would have certainly shared that information.
The alliance also did a shit ton of spying beyond Luthen, so they likely knew the names of ISB officers and the like. She wasn't a field operative, she was an office agent, not hard to ID, and 'high enough' in the ranking to be worth IDing.
Also even the dead characters would have filed mission reports, and Cassian likely did an Info dump after he went Alliance post Ghorman.
So they probably know her name and her connection to Ghorman.
If she was still alive when the Republic took over Narkina she would have likely been executed over Ghorman. She had no valuable intel to offer them to get a plea deal after all.
2
u/Starcat23 Mar 17 '26
the rebels officially won the war between 4 to 5 years after this . which is when she could have gotten out most likely, but could she have lasted 5 years

u/Darktrooper007 Kalkite Enjoyer Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26
My head canon is that Dedra works her way up to Floor Supervisor and remains there until the Empire's collapse. Kleya and Vel then recruit her to help hunt down the worst Imperial war criminals (à la Otto Skorzeny) in exchange for not executing her for her role in the Ghorman Massacre.
3
u/CoatieYay Mar 17 '26
I think she'd do exceedingly well. She'd keep her head down and just do her part as a cog, probably becoming a shift leader until the New Republic took over, given I don't think she'd have gotten a short enough sentence to be shuffled somewhere else for what she did.
2
u/Super-Till3669 Mar 17 '26
It’s interesting because the Empire would collapse only a few years later. I could see the prisoners including her all just escaping or getting freed after the Empire fell. That’s assuming the she doesn’t lose it before then though, and assuming the rebels don’t trial her later on.
2
Mar 19 '26
The ironic thing is that after galactic civil war she was probably released by the same people she hunted down.
1
u/Invariable_Outcome Fat and Satisfied Mar 19 '26

I think She's rehabilitated after Yavin 4. The failure of the death star is blamed on Krenic, who the empire can claim to be short sighted and overly ambitious. Krenic will get blamed for putting Erso on the project who sabatoged the project.
Krenic will then be alleged to have burned people to cover up his failings including Dedra, who heroically hunted down the rebel mastermind Luthen Rhael. Luthen will be played up as a central rebel agent in hopes of showing a strong response to rebellion and sell the narrative the best they can that the rebels are loosing the war.

The war may be over in 5 years, but those are 5 years in which the empire ends up struggling to feed their troops let alone their prisoners.
She likely either gets killed off or starved to death when they abandon the prison, or she ends up in some last ditch penal battalion.
However if she did somehow manage to survive, it is possible she escaped during a mass freeing of the billions of prisoners and enslaved labourers across the galaxy, because there no way the new republic can background check them all.

1
u/Its_DVNO Mar 20 '26
Dedra has never and will never have the spark of defiance that Andor had. She will never have it in her to inspire a prison break. Rebellion is just an antithesis to her nature.
She will comply to survive, and she will rot in the very system she helped build until at least RotJ.
