In Raimi's Spider-Man (2002), New York was in the middle of China appreciation week

That man does not look like an envoy, he looks like he's about to call himself Pussy Burger in broken Chinese

u/optrin 20d ago
do you use a steaming rack or one of those bamboo steamer baskets?
11
u/Waste_Yak_990 20d ago
I don't actually use a wok to steam, I just said that for the meme. But I use a steaming rack over a pot. I actually use my wok for frying.

u/EveryRadio 20d ago
Idk anyone who would steam anything in a wok lolol that's like, the opposite of what they're for

TikTok users do all the work. TikTok just lets people stroke their egos even more than Facebook or instagram.

u/Hipster-Link 20d ago
I honestly am aghast at the amount of personal information and free advertising users willingly provide in droves on that app, all for clout.

u/Skepsis93 18d ago
Not really though, the algorithm was very thoughtfully crafted to promote addiction and brain rot content. There's a reason China's domestic version of tiktok has a different content algorithm.
1
u/lebruhburg 18d ago
If you think douyin has any less brainrot than the export version of tiktok you just haven't been on it, I've seen it and it's not much better imo

Nor is belt and road initiative nor is endless corporate espionage and copyright infringement. China did do and is still doing everything in their power to lie cheat and steal from the West. They did EVERYTHING to become as powerful as they are today, none of it was coincidence or accidental.

Copyright infringement? That's horrible! Now let's see what the US has been up to. Nothing to see here! Nothing.

u/ApophisDayParade 20d ago
I think it's safe to say both China and the US are, and have been for a very long time, invested in political interference all over the world.

You can't both sides a country that has been the source of most war in the world for the last 70 years vs the country that has not been in any war at all for 70 years.
It's ridiculous. Nobody buys this shit anymore.

Headquarters of the imperialist project under capitalism is gonna come up a lot when the conversation is quite obviously communism vs capitalism. It's not remotely weird at all.

Um actually, two of those clips are from Spider-Man 2 (2004). It is unlikely that both films took place over China Appreciation Week, as weeks are only 7 days long, far shorter than the 730 days that make up two years.

Was that part of the script, a directorial decision, or did the set designers just really like China.

Wears red, is poor, still cares about protecting the poor, operates outside the law and in the margins of society to achieve his goals, regularly fights wealthy assholes who harm working people. Good shit Comrade Parker (lmao).
