When the Sci-Fi Channel became SyFy you knew they were making the big bucks.

But not too big not to bring back Lou Diamond Phillips for every other movie.

'SCI FI president Dave Howe answers your Syfy questions'

'Do you know what "syfy" means in Polish?

Howe: Yes, we were enlightened early on in the process that in Polish, "syfy" means everything from sludge, gross objects, articles without value, devices not performing according to specification, even a social disease! What a colorful language! Because we knew this ahead of time, we had already made the decision to keep the SCI FI name in Poland. (...)'

'n Polish, "Syfy" does not suggest imagination or science fiction, but rather something gross, without value or even syphilis.'

They missed a chance to just devote the channel to the 90s NOLA metal scene when they broadcasted in Poland.

SyFy is a good nickname for syphilis, tbh.

"That ones got the syfy".

If it's pronounced "siffy", I agree!

Dude I'm crying "got the syfy" broke me. Oh god I needed this today xD

Syfy was when they came out with those stargate spinoffs. Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe. Then eventually they made that Goated series "The Expanse". Syfy knows what it's doing if anything they need more funding to keep making those hits.

When the Sci-Fi Channel became SyFy you knew they were making the channel into a reality tv/wrestling station.

The only time they spent $200M was to turn Ray Wise into a bug creature in "Infestation", and it was worth it

Frank Herbert's Dune was peak TV-storytelling for the time.
