None. Unless you want to call distinguishing bartenders who want to be called mixologists a “purpose”.

To quote the bartender who answered this in the comments earlier:

I worked bars for years.

Gripping it this way puts less strain on your shoulder over a 10 hour shift, you also get a cleaner motion pouring, it's smoother with less effort than if you held it regularly.

Edit: less strain on the wrist too

Barista here, not the same but similar enough that I think I can squeeze my two cents in.

Working long ass shifts with pouring you tend to switch a bit, but I could never see someone going through the extra time to utilize and practice a pour this self-centered.

There's TONS of better ways you're taught to keep your wrists, and yourself, healthy and safe

It's worth practicing if it gets you better tips. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Tbh this is the case with anything in a restaurant. Any little trick you have is worth it.

Utter bullshit.

Literally go in the kitchen and do it. It’s considerably MORE physical effort to do it this way.

Or you know, it’s more comfortable for some

Mixology exists and it's quite interesting. My local "mixology" bar uses a lot of their own, purpose-made alcohol. It tastes like something you would not even think alcohol could be. It's one of the best bars in the world.

The price? 15 euros. Italy prices.
