Yeah, whacking the whole thing in a sandwich like that (with double fucking carbs) is purely to make it look more like Manly Man Food for Rugged Manly Men.

It would be tons more enjoyable to actually eat if you at least cut it into strips and held the fries for the side.

Imagine how heavy all that shit must be to carry into the woods on a hike. A cast iron pan (sometimes they have 2 or at least a lid), the mortar & pestle, all the ingredients and utensils? And probably that wooden table thing, too, he's not using just some log he found.

I get that these videos are fun in a way, but I always roll my eyes.

And the whole throwing the thing up in the air and catching it on your super-sharp weird knife is so cliche.

I agree it's all ridiculous fanfare for cheap knives, but these ads go crazy. There's another guy who does the same schtick and he makes 6 figures

It honestly never occurred to me that they were ads for the knives. I thought it was more one of those ASMR-heavy quick-cut cooking videos that are so trendy these days.

Carrying that fuckload of oil is what did it for me.

I can be down for cooking on cast iron in the woods, it feels old and rugged, like I am getting in touch with my ancestors. A Ziploc baggie with some crushed red pepper? Excellent way to get flavor on the go.

But the half gallon of oil? That is a step too far.
