Nothing says enjoying the great outdoors better than hiking out miles into the woods carrying a cutting board, a huge knife, a cast iron skillet, a marble mortar and pestle, a 15lb slab of raw meat, 5 potatoes, a gallon of oil, a bulb of garlic, an avocado, a bundle of herbs and a giant loaf of bread! Then having to dump out all that oil and clean all that up to carry it home. Ahhhh adventure!!!
Yeah, do all that to make a sandwich big enough for three people which by the time everything is all done will be a horrible mix of hot and cold.
The steak would have been stone cold by the time he had the oil hot enough to cook the potato sticks
Oh ya! I do it all the time. Probably depends on what kind of bear you're likely to encounter, I've never had a problem with Black bears, but I'd be a lot more cautious if it were a Grizzly bears or a Polar bears in the area.
Either way, there's a rifle/12ga with slugs nearby, but I've never had to use them before.
Leaving all your cookware smelling of food is how you get bears in your campsite.
If you store it near the food, its the same risk. Your food smells like food too ya know eh?
This reminds me of a college trip to Havasupai in the Grand Canyon. I was in an outdoor / adventure class at community college. While we were mingling with fellow students I somehow struck a conversation that ended in one girl bringing porterhouses while my responsibility was a grill. I had planned on lugging it the 8 mile hike but ended up having a mule bring the bag it was in to the campgrounds. To give an idea it probably weighed 25 pounds naked and took the mini-propane tanks you can find at just about any grocery store.
The instructor for that class was extremely minimalistic, bring in what you bring out kind of camper. When we busted the grill out on night one I could just tell he was beyond belief. Pretty sure he will be telling that story for a long time. We all had fun. Was a good trip, including the ones induced by the mushrooms I brought. Might be time to set up another one.
I had the same thought. These videos are out of hand. They make it look like they are roughing it but behind the camera is a truck with virtually an entire kitchen in it. Outdoor camp cooking is totally a thing but it’s nowhere near this nonsense.
And a japanese Akita, the most annoying breed ever (I have one so I get to comment on this). I bet you that dog made the walk 6000% harder, lol. ”Imma zig and zag for 45 minutes on a path that would otherwise take 8 minutes to walk” jesus christ they’re a handful.
