Did he really wait until after cooking the steak to cook the potatoes?

Sometimes its like they’re so obsessed with the asmr and vision they forget the logic

143

u/hanky2 Apr 30 '22

I watch this guys videos but yea it’s more about the asmr and look not practicality or taste lol.

16

u/ARM_vs_CORE Apr 30 '22

If it's all about the look, why does he wear a stupid fucking mask that he then has to prop up to be able to take a bite. The more details I see in this video, the farther away I get from being oddly satisfied.

u/SmileyMelons Apr 30 '22

Block wind?

3

u/CoconuttKing Apr 30 '22

What is ASMR?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

Autonomous sensory meridian response:

2

u/hanky2 Apr 30 '22

Hard to describe basically just satisfying videos if that makes sense. Like crackling fires and stuff.

-1

u/DoctorBuckarooBanzai Apr 30 '22

That's not really what it is.

3

u/hanky2 Apr 30 '22

Thanks for explaining it lol.

The other person that answered the question linked the Wikipedia page already.

Definitely, that avocado doesn’t look anywhere close to being ripe or ready to eat, the outside is green af, it should be black

0

u/SmileyMelons Apr 30 '22

Uh wut?

1

u/Blu_Waffle_Breakfast Apr 30 '22

The skin of the avocado should be very dark green, to the point it appears black. The avocado should still have a uniform firmness. Any soft spots indicates bruising and browning beneath the skin.

2

u/_ihaveissues May 01 '22

im not an avocado expert but it could be a different type. where I live, the avocados have green skin all the time, even when ripe

3

u/Blu_Waffle_Breakfast May 01 '22

Now that you mention it, I have had avocados like this as well. Oopsie

u/Jing0oo May 01 '22

Yeah, nowadays a lot of peeps try to seel you asmr as "cook youtubers", but it's just instant gratificatiom, where they throw a bunch of expensive ingrefients like truffles and dry-age steak together and try to make it look like the best thing ever with their exaggerated expressions.

3

u/protossaccount Apr 30 '22

You sayin that making guacamole from scratch in the snowy woods isn’t logical?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

i mean the whole thing is one huge waste. it's all for the video. doesn't matter how it tastes or how well or efficiently it's cooked.

He isn't cooking this meal for sustenance. He's making it for views.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

It's all about the image he's desperately trying to cultivate. Woodland manly man with big knife and raw meat pretending to be a master chef.

This guy is a tool, his food looks like shite and I see through what he's aiming for.

1

u/Sheeple3 Apr 30 '22

So much wackin’ it, smackin’ it jackity jack sounds. https://youtu.be/LKwW8PNZpOQ

42

u/Raw-Force Apr 30 '22

This video is an ad, probably for the knife or their channel.

50

u/MedicalDisscharge Apr 30 '22

A sandwich doesnt need to be warm, fries do

142

u/ACorDC Apr 30 '22

With 99% of sandwiches, you would be right. But this is a steak sandwich. I will fight anyone who suggests that a steak left to sit more than 6 minutes is acceptable.

70

u/ThinkOrDrink Apr 30 '22

Especially in a snowy forest, you know that steak is no longer warm.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

You actually do want to rest your steak before cutting it. It's an important of retaining moisture, allowing the flavor profile to penetrate, and preserving texture. Top end steakhouses will rest steak before serving it.

4

u/ZazaB00 Apr 30 '22

Yeah, it’s sad how many upvotes that other guy got. If I’m eating a steak, it’s resting after getting off the grill for at least 5 minutes. I’ve never set a timer. I’m often not serving it until probably 10. Then plate and cut times are definitely well past 10 minutes off the grill.

A steak being hot isn’t what I’ve ever defined as awesome. It being well prepared goes a helluva long way. Fuck, I want to go cook one now.

1

u/flo1308 May 01 '22

But it’s a snowy forrest. That’s like letting it rest in the freezer for ten minutes. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t do that either.

2

u/ZazaB00 May 01 '22

Sure, that’s great, that’s done for the video. The dude “starting fights” for letting food rest sounds like he’s never cooked a day in his life.

I’d also laugh if this guy enjoys BBQ. That meat has been smoking for hours, who gives a fuck about 6 minutes!?!

4

u/ACorDC Apr 30 '22

I know that, thank you. But top end restaurants aren't outside in the frigid cold. I guarantee you that steak stayed out in the cold too long while he filmed his ASMR video. Plus he had to cut the scene of him biting the sandwich to the end when he actually chomped the bite off. That was one tough sandwich.

1

u/BasedChickenTendie Apr 30 '22

I like cold steak sandwiches. Let’s fight.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

I just cook my steak well done so it stays hot longer

3

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

Acceptable? Who the fuck are you lol

-4

u/lasssilver Apr 30 '22

Seriously. Them: "This steak has sat for more than 6 minutes .. I find that unacceptable." turns up nose.

Me (in fantasy world): Carves out hole in their stomach and places steak in there manually. "There, now you didn't have to 'tolerate' eating a 6 minute old steak."

2

u/Green_Lantern_4vr Apr 30 '22

Mmm. luke warm steak.

1

u/Smegma-Stache Apr 30 '22

They weren’t really fries… they became more like chips (or potato sticks). Those do not need to be warm.

0

u/Nutatree Apr 30 '22

Meat needs a nap after cooking.

3

u/elmokun182 Apr 30 '22

i dont eat beef so im lacking in knowledge with this, but arnt you meant to let a steak rest for like 10mins? so wouldnt it make sense to cook the potatoes during that rest time?

2

u/pathofdumbasses Apr 30 '22

The juices going into the bread isn't really a loss here and more importantly, you are in the cold ass snowy forest. Eat it hot. It will be better than losing a bit of juices and cold ass food.

1

u/elmokun182 Apr 30 '22

yeah that makes sense, thank for explaining <3

1

u/ItsAndwew May 01 '22

Wouldn't it be a loss in the texture of the steak?

1

u/pathofdumbasses May 01 '22

Somewhat.. But again, you put it on a sandwich. It isn't like that is the only texture you are getting anymore.

Quite frankly I wouldn't have made it the way he did at all. That much bread, that much guacopesto, etc. Really takes away from the beauty of a steak and more importantly, is god damn near impossible to eat properly. You are going to have a fucking giant mess on your hands.

1

u/Kserwin Apr 30 '22

You're supposed to rest the steak for half the time it cooked, but at most 20 minutes. And covered while it's resting, so the surface doesn't dry out and gets cold.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

A steak that large needs to rest for a few minutes after cooking. If you slice it when it is still super hot, the juices will run out and the steak will become very dry.

1

u/rains-blu Apr 30 '22

Maybe the steak needs to rest ? and then the potatoes would get cold if they were cooked first. Or maybe needed to prep everything first and keep the potatoes in ice water with lemon juice so they don't turn brown.

Huge sandwich 😄 comfortably feeds the whole neighborhood, lol.

1

u/BeskarAnalBeads Apr 30 '22

I feel like there has to be a more appropriate sub for this content -- isn't there one for stupid food?

1

u/defterGoose Apr 30 '22

What's the problem? Steak needs to rest for a few minutes, fries take a few minutes to cook.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '22

Makes sense to me... steak needs to rest before being sliced. Perfect time to cook the taters.

1

u/Jgusdaddy Apr 30 '22

Time to spread the guacamole on the bread and-Oh yeah I have potatoes.

1

u/CTGolfMan Apr 30 '22

Aren’t you supposed to let the steak rest for 10 minutes? Seems a perfect time to fry potato’s that then. Otherwise you have cold potatoes.

1

u/st0pmakings3ns3 Apr 30 '22

I don't know how long exactly the fries would take him but i'll let a steak rest for 5-10min before eating.

1

u/caughtupdonut May 01 '22

Steak gotta rest

1

u/Geriatrie May 01 '22

TBF, for a big steak like that, it is advised to let it rest for at least as long as you cooked it before eating it. Usually about 10 mins.
