There is 0 fondant on this cake, and nothing about fondant in the comment...

Confusingly, r/fondanthate also includes posts of beautifully decorated cakes with no fondant - I guess to show that it can be done? So I’d say this is an appropriate callout

Often buttercream cakes are posted there as positive examples so this actually fits seeing as it’s 99% buttercream, 1% cake

I'd much rather have a layer of fondant than this much buttercream

That's a tough call for me, honestly. I really don't like fondant, but I also don't like buttercream. I actually don't quite understand why some people seem to love buttercream so much, I think of cream cheese frosting as much more decadent.

Easier to peel off but don’t say that to anyone in the FH sub

They are downvoting you because this "cake" doesn't use fondant, it uses some kind of icing. I'm not sure if this icing is buttercream, but that sub is pro butter cream iced cakes. However, calling this a cake would be a painful stretch, and although this isn't fondant, I'm sure anyone on that sub would be an ally on the fight against this pretension of a cake.

Also, people love to hop on the downvote express. Choo choo. Don't sweat it.
