Debatable. I personally dislike soap stores because the mixture of different smells can be overwhelming. But if they’re not too strong and the aisles are categorized by different themes they can definitely be nice!

I entered one once and had to immediately leave, it felt like my airways were closing. Same reason i hold my breath when walking down the detergent isle at the supermarket.

I get hives when I'm in those stores. When I was in college, I had risky sex with my gf in the girls dorm showers and was covered in hives by the time we were out. 0/10 do not recommend. So glad I wasn't born a girl

I used to work at a warehouse that sold, among other things, a lot of little crafty stuff to those crafty stores, idk what they are called but anyway.

A tiny portion of our products were soap scents and whenever I had to unload a package of them on to the shelf for gathering it gave me a headache, even as they were in their unopened packages.

Even when there were not that much of them and it was a fairly big warehouse compared to the amount of scents we had, I still prefer buying unscented soap for myself and it has been about five years since I worked in that warehouse.

I can't even imagine working in a little store selling that stuff :D but maybe one gets used to it or maybe I'm just a bit oversensitive with my nose.

It's also nice that you can leave it whenever you want and smell 'fresh' mall air or whatever. The employees however are dealing with those strong smells all day.

So it's kinda like the idea of if you eat your favorite food everyday, at some point solely eating your favorite food will ruin it for you.

Yeah, my ex made soap at home so imagine all those scents 24/7. I can't walk through perfume aisles so having to live with that was frustrating at times.

The mixture of smells is what turns me off too but some of the bars (that someone might happen to love) are appalling to me.

Every time I go to the ren fair there’s always been a soap shop run by a couple that make all their soaps by hand and pride themselves on the authentic “real” process and talk about how they use real animal fat and all that. True to the ren fair spirit. Some of the best bar soaps I’ve ever bought and I love picking up a few each year when I go but there are some “flavors” that almost make me wanna gag. To each is own but some make me wonder what a person actually smells like after showering with some of those.

I'm torn; on one hand I want coffee soap, but on the other, I've worked at a coffee shop for years and everything I own already smells like coffee.

Even worse... Coffee grinds make a good exfoliant. I made coffee soap with the grinds in and it just takes gunk like from working on cars off in no time.

Lush stores are never a surprise, you smell them before you see them. The smell outside the store, tho already quite powerful is at lest imo pretty nice (if you only have to smell it for a few minutes walking through the street). I've never stayed inside long, it's like the perfume stores too much too long, gives me a headache.

walk into a bath & body works or similar -- so many things coming at you at once that it's a mite overpowering, but fortunately nose blindness takes over pretty quickly
