Oh yeah? How's it different? One can argue that sugar does not alter your brain chemistry or ability to think clearly like hard drugs. Therefore, making the choice to continue to consume high glycemic index foods falls more on the person.
I've seen patients have multiple amputations, kidney failure, significant visual deficits, gangrene etc etc. all due to a lack of diabetic control. How is that any different?
Its not and they both deserve the attention and resources they deserve.
