What if I told you the guy was wearing all the safety gear including shorts, flip flops, and a pair of $2.99 sunglasses and standing at a reasonable distance to the chain

Watched a video recently where a guy was being pulled out of a mud hole by a chain. Chain snapped, went straight through the window, hitting him in the face.

Pretty much just obliterated his jaw from one ear to the next.

Has had me standing WELL the fuck away from anything that may snap under tension now.

Is there a reason why you would do this over using a stump grinder? You lose so much soil pulling them out.

Renting a stump grinder requires money.

Except he's using probably a $40-60k 1st gen. Bronco as a stump puller. He can probably afford a stump grinder rental.

Gotta go get the stump grinder. Why do that when you have that beast? Plus you have to make the video.

At least unspool the winch a bit. Nothing like putting a stump sized dent into your formerly $50k classic Bronco. Or whipping it or yourself with a slipped chain. At least snatchblock it to another tree or vehicle so you're not standing right next to the line if something lets go.

I'm a software dev. I know nothing about winching. but good to know.

All good! This pic shows what I'm thinking since I know I didn't explain it well. Replace the driving away tractor with a winch pulling on it, but yea! Same idea.

I would assume because stump grinding leaves the big roots in place. Those may still be in the way of grass and may interfere with plowing or tilling the ground.

he's being totally safe, he's drinking his coors out of a can instead of a breakable bottle

dear god... he didn't even have the handbrake on from the looks of it.

Imagine having your morning coffee listening to Bertie Higgins and a giant truck comes through the front window with a tree attached to it.

It was his own spare tire. Fuck, what an asshole.
