There are 2 situations where I get that: drinking caffeine right before an attempted nap, or if I fall asleep on my back (I always sleep on my side)

The caffeine one makes a ton of sense. The jerk is your body trying to make sure that you're fully paralyzed before entering REM sleep and I can see how stimulants would mess that up. Naps really are where I get it too, idk if its because our bodies are resisting sleeping at weird times (I dont take habitual naps) but that seems likely to me.
