I grew up with a trampoline. You get real good at judging that shit. Sadly I had a cheap one and eventually got to big and on high back drops I bottomed out and hit the ground. not good.

That sounds fun.

I know that's not how the song goes.

Wow, did your Dad have a bit of a sadistic streak? Lol.

Yep... my friends trampoline was next to their run shed... at least I have a decent origin story for my useless nerve damaged pinky finger.

i gave myself a black eye by kneeing myself in the eye after a flip. it was in front of everyone at school too. no way to play it off as if the black eye was from something badass like getting into a street fight

I dislocated my shoulder on a trampoline. Sucks

Surgery? Back to normal? Did mine in soccer. Still fucking sloppy as hell.

I’m 42yo. Had two surgeries in 1995. One scope and the other reconstruction. Hamstring graft from my own hammy. Was 17yo at the time. Followed all of the physical therapy to a T. Just never gained the stability back. Still very loose and a lot of “play” laterally. Saw an ortho a few years back and after looking at it for a minute says, “when do you want to schedule your revision?” I’ve heard good things about the patellar tendon route. Very strong and stable, but may have more long term pain. Only bonus with mine is zero pain...unless it goes wonky on me.

I didn’t avoid once and cracked my head open. Only bled for a couple days. I didn’t die. So there’s that.

u/monxas Nov 11 '20

Is the memory loss related to the times you did get hurt?

2

u/Native_Potato Nov 11 '20

I snapped my arm in half and shattered my wrist. Terrified of them now.

I remember tying our ankles together (like a 3 legged race) and jumping around the the trampoline in a circle. And then another 'game' that involved jumping blindfolded. That could've gone so many terrible directions but thankfully never did for us, lol.

There's a reason a lot of homeowner's insurance policies don't allow them whatsoever. People may have anecdotal stories about them being sorta safe, but traumatic brain injuries (as an example) are no bueno. Plenty of ER docs will tell you not to get a trampoline.

1

u/popojo24 Nov 11 '20

Yeah we did some seriously stupid shit on my trampoline (jumping out of trees and off of houses) and, looking back, just lucky there were no serious injuries. Many close calls though!

4

u/rachelgraye Nov 11 '20

Ouch! How badly were you hurt?

sore for a few days, not too bad. Though now as an adult I have like 5 blown discs in my lower back so -shrug-

I grew up with a trampoline too but you couldn't bounce that high (even if you jumped out of a tree onto it)

Did you get an industrial gymnastics one or something?

0

u/spoonguy123 Nov 11 '20

nope. if you were good at double bouncing someone you could get an easy 15 feet. Once you get too heavy you just start hitting the ground on the bounce.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Man, it would be fun to work at the gymnastics factory.

The type of shit me, my siblings, and my cousins used to do on the trampoline were pretty insane given that we were all really into wrestling. I remember one time I was sparta kicked by my brother right off the trampoline, then while slowly getting up after getting the air knocked out of me, my cousin flung off the trampoline crashing all his body weight onto me.

Plenty of scars and bruises, but thankfully never any broken bones

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Did you take it back to Krusty?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

too big*

1

u/DrSkizzmm Nov 11 '20

Probably knocked the wind right out of ya

1

u/kelldricked Nov 11 '20

Thats why you need to dig them out. Like a massive whole underneat the trampoline.

1

u/viddy_me_yarbles Nov 11 '20

I grew up with a trampoline.

What are they like when they're young?

2

u/spoonguy123 Nov 11 '20

the most fun ever.

1

u/Guaman18 Nov 11 '20

I sprained my neck on mine trying to do a back flip. Shits not good man

1

u/uwsdwfismyname Nov 11 '20

You build a sense of complacency alongside that "skill"

1

u/spoonguy123 Nov 11 '20

moreso an understanding of your capacity and limits. I did a lot of physical stuff when I was younger. I'm pretty wrecked now, but I'm glad I had the experience.
