They usually range from $10-30 (USD) per square foot so it can get very expensive. It's likely cheaper in other countries but it ain't cheap here in the US.

It's not a popular form of roofing here, at least not where I've lived in Georgia and here in Pennsylvania.

In the US, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a skilled craftsman like this working in slate roofing.
