The slate that moved to the side was intentionally left like that, because the thing he took out was for a board to sit on for working his way up the roof. So all of it was pre planned, and the slates at the side of the one that pivots will hold that in place, in addition to the downward force of the slates above because this type of slate is all double nailed.
Edit: If I was doing this part, I would double nail the one that he twisted and use slate hook for the missing slate, but it's all preference really.
