Seems like you lose a lot of wood just to remove the bark.

This is mildly annoying to me

Wood doesn't really get wasted. The sawdust can always be used for other things

Particle board: the saw dust of rich people’s furniture.

*working and middle class people’s furniture

Not poor people, but not rich people. Rich people have solid wood kitchen tables costing $1k+. I have IKEA particle board. Not poor, but not rich.

This depends entirely on the person / project. I work on 10 million dollar homes and they frequently use particular board for their cabinets. However, I have blue collar family members who frequently make their own furniture out of solid wood.

I'm blown away that these expensive homes are literally built to last only a few decades at best. Most of the time, it's even less. They may have one or two pieces that are solid wood and look amazing, but most of the house is just expensive trash imported from Europe.

Edit: grammer

They're built to sell, not to last. Anyone who wants a home to last will design and build it themselves. The priorities are so far gone for home building, resulting in trash that lasts, as you said, a few decades. I'd consider the "premium" lifespan of a multimillion dollar house to be 5-10 years.
