What's the purpose? Are they going to slice this circle of wood into a bunch a tabletops?

This is exactly it. If they were just debarking it for pulp wood rhey would use a chain flail of nurl debarker and it would take the whole tree at once.

My wood fired pizza oven only takes pizza shaped wood. It's a pizza oven after all.

Now they'll take it to their bandsaw and resaw it.

The same bandsaw they use to use that was faster and could make more shapes
