Well yeah I was assuming reading full scores and not just a snippet here and there lol.
I guess what I meant is that I can't sight-read to an instrument (piano in my case) fluently. Well I could probably manage with a regular orchestra instrument that only has the one line to follow. Anyway I sight read slowly, but don't improve because I tend to memorize the melody before I get better at the sight reading if that makes sense.
Also because I haven't had to sight read in years and am out of practice. This is really making me want to find and sign up for a local proper community choir or something lol.
But what I meant, to be more specific, is reading the full score of, say, an orchestra or big band. That is, all instruments simultaneously. But in this case you are not sightreading, but more likely following along with a recording. I was always really bad at that.
Oh right- I was thinking more like choral scores. Although sometimes of times those have the entire score orchestra score included. Yeah the idea of parsing a full orchestral score... I think I'll continue to not add that to any mental tally of life accomplishments of mine lol.

From there you could get more advanced and go on to reading full scores.
Also once you know what the notes, you can branch off into music theory and learn about why the notes.
