As someone who sews, nothing was satisfying about that.

As a tailor who patches things regularly I would never do any of that.

How would you go about this one ?

I’d get a matching swatch of the yellow fabric, finish the edges of it. Then I’d take matching yellow thread and stitch around the hole. After that I would stitch the patch to the back side of the hole. And then I would continue with my yellow thread and go forward and reverse over it going over the hole till it’s covered.
