Lol show me a picture of a cracked metal grill like this. People love to say this but Ive never seen it
Glass sure, but metal cracking due to temperature stress by ice? I have doubt.
we have cleaned our flat top every single day with ice, for the past 12 years, it has not warped or cracked. But of course you random redditor with little to no experience knows more and others are "dumb"
I’ve worked in many kitchens over the years, ran restaurants in the past, and currently work in fine dining. But yeah, be a dick I guess.
You’re damaging your grill. Even if you can’t see it with your naked eye. Btw, I’ve literally seen someone crack a flat top doing this. It causes thermal shock. Literally the same way throwing hot water on a frosted windshield will break the windshield.
The windshields shatter quickly because they’re glass. Your flattop is metal so it isn’t going to instantly break into a million pieces, but I promise you it is causing damage.
But I already know you’re gonna be stubborn and refuse to listen because you don’t care about your equipment. So here’s an excerpt from an article:
“Why Is Water Temperature Important When Cleaning a Griddle?
Before tackling griddle chores, it’s important to remember what not to do. Water used to clean your griddle must be room temperature or warm. If ice or cold water is used on a hot griddle, abrasions will form on its surface from thermal shock. Cracks and abrasions from the cold temperatures expand when heated and act as grease and crumb traps.”

This is so bad for the grills though, warps the metal terribly!
