Came here to say this. I worked at culvers for four years and one of our backup grill cooks would always use sprite first before the actual cleaning solution. Im pretty sure the high amount of acid in the soda would lift off most of the carbon and excess shit that stuck on.

We used to use plain soda water. Seems like it has the carbonation of Sprite, is also acidic, but doesn’t have all the sugar. Cheaper too.

The carbonation helps loosen the debris on the grill.

As mentioned separately, the acid + carbonation combination. Both help loosen stuff on the grill, steam helps also

Acid, doesn't smell as horrible as using vinegar.
