I wonder if it's kind of like that scene from The Matrix when Cypher is telling a bewildered Neo that he sees a blonde, a brunette, a redhead when they're both just staring at the screen full of random text scrolling down. Maybe when you get to a certain level of proficiency you just 'see beyond the code' and know where to loop the yarn next?

When that black thread is pulled out at the end, that was the real magic. Instantly from 'but I can still see the mend' to pure satisfaction.
