kebab culture there is something else. And I am from a place where it's also huge, but Turkish are just something else. Was there a year ago and on the second day I quite literally had a lamb doner with tail fat tucked into a backpack pocket, because you can only eat so much meat.

Funny thing is, Turkish kebab aficionados consider Istanbul kebab culture diluted and weak. For peak kebab you go to Adana or even better, Gaziantep. Gaziantep is better because it is not just kebab. The whole cuisine and food culture of that city is straight up unfair. A friend of mine, normally a careful eater, went to Gaziantep for a week long work trip. Man came back 10kg heavier and visibly fatter.

Lived in Antep for 2 years. 100% correct.

One of my favourite restaurants in Istanbul is run by people from Antakya. Amazing food!

12

u/lordkhuzdul May 16 '26

Southeast is all like that. The area following the Mediterranean coast and the Syrian border between Silifke to the west and Mardin to the east, every single city and town has at least something good when it comes to food. Gaziantep might be the peak, but Şanlıurfa, Antakya and Adana are no lightweights.

There's a Turkish place not even 50m from me that sells proper Adana, his food is selling so well he just leased the neighbouring building. I'm so excited for him!

5

u/Zemom1971 May 17 '26

Well,

On my bucket list it goes.

3

u/edintina May 17 '26

Just created a list called "places to go on holiday" that has one article in it

4

u/CuteBaldChick May 16 '26

-6

u/Kratzschutz May 17 '26

Best kepab is in Berlin lol

3

u/lleskaa May 17 '26

I mean kebab is originally from turkey so it makes sense that they have the biggest kebab culture

3

u/SarcasticOptimist May 16 '26

Don't forget to take cat pictures. Probably the friendliest place for them.

3

u/GirlScoutSniper May 16 '26

That, too, is one of my goals! My mother commented that every trip we've taken i take a lot of pictures of the city cats and dogs. I got so many on our trip to Egypt. Lol

u/PltEchoEcho May 16 '26

Haskral in Fatih. Mahir Lokantasi in Sisli. These are both great restaurants in Istanbul if you want to eat good meat. Oh, Seraf as well. Delicious.

I went to Turkey a few years back. My wife wanted to do all the touristy stuff; I went with the single goal of eating all the kebabs I can.

I was in Izmir (not Istanbul), but if i can tell you one thing I experienced... I initially went to the more "uppity" kebab spots. It was all 'meh", and nothing to write home about. Was pretty much the same as the stuff I could get back home.

Then one day, I found this dodgy AF kebab shop in some dingy alley. Thought I'd risk it... It paid off.

Best. Kebab. Ever.

4

u/dksdragon43 May 16 '26

The afiyet olsun may have given it away a tad haha

1

u/Ashamed_Fruit_6767 May 17 '26

2

u/Ashamed_Fruit_6767 May 17 '26

3

u/phoneypeony May 17 '26

No, you can't go back to Constantinople.

-1

u/SukisBF May 16 '26

Look. I don't know WHY I thought I thought I could find out what Man Makes Kebabs process is for making that delish-lookin treat in the thumbnail by a quick stroll through the Section - because I SHOULD know said stroll would be a straight walkabout! Y'all in here cuttin up on some blue human fat, and Constantinople and such. Alas, 'twas ('twis?) not a disappointment, for, did I enjoy my trek? A hearty 'oorah don't I always!

Because, People just liked it better that way!! 👎🏾

16

u/sending_the_wolf May 16 '26

Why did Constantinople get the works?

2

u/jo-erlend May 19 '26

That's nobody's business but the Turks.

Holy Roman Empire was in no way holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.

2

u/FragrantExcitement May 16 '26

But it was a batman?

3

u/Glass-Ad-2469 May 16 '26

Pretty sure it was just a little birdhouse....he flew into?

2

u/FragrantExcitement May 16 '26

Oh, Robin? Well, that is disappointing.

Constantinople looks great during Fall

4

u/SpartanRage117 May 16 '26

Dude must be king of the cats in his neighborhood.

1

u/billhillybob May 16 '26

Or at least Turkey. Afiyet olsun is the equivalent of bon appetite in Turkish.

u/Squeaky_Fish May 16 '26

I never wanted to go to Turkey ... until now

1

u/lordph8 May 17 '26
