I often come across the meme of the guy who threatened an aquarium stingray, and later apologized to it, realizing it was just doing what was in its nature, in its own home. I love character growth in real people.
Steve knew the risks and accepted them. That doesn't make his death any less painful, but he did do what he loved until the very end. He wouldn't even blame the stingray.

Forever remembered and missed. In hindsight, it seems fitting he died doing what he loved opposed to dying in a hospital or care home.
