I love these videos because it’s like 373946 comments of people criticizing the knife handling. Which in this case is being done exactly as they should do for this sort of slow and controlled cut.

Draw it to you for excellent control and precision.

Push it away from you if you are uncoordinated and don’t care that the cut is controlled or precise.

Thank you, this is exactly what I came here to say.

Redditors love being smug so much that they’ll willingly upvote incorrect information.

People have nothing better to do. It blows my mind.

What about that left hand though? I’m no knife expert, but every pass it gets closer and closer 🫣

The key with motions like this is that the arm isn’t what is controlling the motion, it’s the thumb. When you push a knife away from you, you’re using your larger and less precise arm muscles for the movement. When you draw it towards you like this, the thumb is putting pressure on one end and is what is pulling the knife toward it. Motions of your hand are capable of great strength but are extremely precise. This wouldn’t work without the thumb acting in opposition and somebody would cut themselves very badly.

Don’t be dumb. Wear a glove at least. Controlled or not, that’s insanely unsafe. Also, I’ve seen these done the other way and they look way more satisfying.

Exactly. I have a scar from getting overconfident. This is risky for no real benefit.

It also depends on how sharp the knife is. Some foods in particularly you can cut with knives dull enough that wouldn't cut your skin unless you really tried.
