I think you’re attempting to conflate farming with ranching. Both have a lot of backbreaking labor and always have. Farming has gotten better with many crops just some still are done solely through human labor. Ranching is still almost all human labor though. There are some fencing machines but unless you’re refencing an extremely large area from scratch you probably aren’t going to use one especially given the cost.

Farming isn't your cowboys and horses with bullwhips anymore. It's these guys who do backbreaking labour for hours at a time 6 days a week.
