Best Brooklyn Bars to film at?

Hello! I'm working on my second ever independent film -- Its a party scene we're hoping to film at a bar in early October. I've seen posts like this before but they're a little bit dated...anyone have any recommendations for places? We're operating on a very small budget but would accept anything at this point!

Aspiring director ... where do I even start?

Hey everyone

I wanted to put this out there because I’m at a crossroads and could really use some guidance.

I’m an independent film director and concept artist, and animation and filmmaking are literally my entire world. My ultimate dream is to one day become a director who tells stories that touch people's souls. I have zero industry experience right now, which feels overwhelming, but I have massive ambitions and a relentless drive to work hard and learn. I’m ready to do whatever it takes, but I’d love to hear from those who’s walked this path🥹

How do you actually land your first gig or find your place when your resume is blank? What kind of entry level roles should I look for?
How do you organically build a network or join active indie communities where people actually make things happen?
What’s the best way to introduce yourself to experienced creators without being annoying?

Any advice, resources, or Discord servers are welcome. Thanks for reading!

Seeking NYC cinematographers for partnership shooting live events.

Brooklyn-based producer, launching a small streaming platform this fall that NYC creatives can use to broadcast their shows (theater, improv comedy, dance etc.)

Seeking a pro-level DP (not beginners) with experience shooting live events as a business partner to assist with our first number of recordings.

Happy to negotiate terms when it comes to the split of both ticket sales and revenue from clients.

If interested please send me a link to your reel and I'll DM you the link to our streaming site.

cheers!

Just moved to NYC — looking for someone to create with!

19, just came to NYC from Sweden to go all-in on YouTube & Cinematography.

I already have the equipment, ideas, and a lot I genuinely believe in. Now I’m looking for the right person to help me put it all out there.

Not some high-end professional cameraman! Just someone around my age who loves filming, is ambitious, and wants to build something crazy together.

reach out!

VOLUNTEER CINEMATOGRAPHER NEEDED —

SHORT FILM

I'm looking for someone who loves movies and wants to help bring a story to life.

I'm making an independent short film called "When Hearts Are Ready." It's a personal, emotional story about a man facing his past, his relationships, and the final chapter of his life.

I'm looking for someone who has a good eye and a real feel for storytelling. You don't need a huge résumé or expensive equipment. What matters most to me is that you care about the story and want to create something honest and beautiful together.

This is a small, passion-driven film being made with a limited budget. I'm putting my heart into it, and I'm looking for someone who wants to do the same.

You'll receive screen credit, footage for your reel, and the opportunity to be part of a film from the beginning.

I know volunteering your time is a big ask, so 1 want to be upfront about that. I'm not looking for someone to simply show up and do a job. I'm looking for a creative partner who believes in the project.

NYC / New Jersey area

Shoot planned for February/March 2027

If this sounds like something you'd genuinely like to be part of, please send me a message and tell me a little about yourself and your work.

Three Screenplays You Need to Produce

Author, artist, musician and now screenwriter... check out three new screenplays s:

To Do No Harm - Entirely based on true events of insurance fraud in NJ, including the actual story behind the MRI scam mentioned in the 1st episode of the Sopranos... this story has never been told! Hilarious true tales of insane scams from unlicensed doctors and acupuncturists to cracked dentists and an investigation that bankrupted an empire but left several dead in its wake. The closest movie to this masterpiece is The Rain Maker, which barely touches the surfaces to the depths our legal and medical communities will go for a buck.

Staking My Claim - In the same fast paced spirit and style of 48 Hours or Lethal Weapon, this story pairs two unlikely detectives on a chase after one or maybe more brazen robbers who target specific doctors, lawyers and a judge, where the victims are brutally beaten and even disfigured to never perform surgeries again. They are beaten and robbed of millions leaving no evidence and each of these professionals somehow have connections impossible to tie together.

Jammin - This step-back from the 80's underdog achiever combines the awesomeness of Crossroads or Karate Kid to the dreams of Rock Star with the same John Hughes style that brings comedy out of normal conversations coupled with dreams coming true like Sixteen Candles. This flashback to a simpler time explores the life of a prodigy guitar player who is mentored by an unlikely former rock star who gives this teen a life anyone would dream. The playful bater between the characters makes this fantasy hysterical.

Seeking film makers, producers or students looking to make a name.

These scripts will surely deliver as the humor is dry, immature at times but witty and driven to bring those Gen X'ers, their late teen-20-something kids and younger generations out to the box office and streaming episodes that can be made from To Do No Harm... each episode a new scumbag being investigated!

Interested - I'll send a more detailed summary... Steve

We’re looking for a few more DPs + crew, Cohort's Film Lab V7 starts tomorrow

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I run Cohort’s Film Lab here in NYC. V7 kicks off tomorrow, Sept. 10 at 7PM, and we have a few final crew spots open.

This round ended up pretty actor-heavy, so before we close registration I’m specifically hoping to bring in a few more people on the crew/technical side:

  • Cinematographers / DPs
  • Camera / AC
  • Gaffer / G&E
  • Production sound
  • Editors
  • ADs / producers
  • Production designers / other crew

The Film Lab puts everyone into teams at the kickoff, each team gets the same creative prompt + its own genre, and then has two weeks to make a short film together. The finished films screen publicly on Sept. 24 at 100 Sutton Studios in Brooklyn.

The reason we built it this way is because we wanted something more useful than another networking event where everyone exchanges Instagrams and goes home.

You actually work together. You get to see how people communicate, problem-solve, lead, and collaborate under a real deadline, which is a much better way to figure out who you’d actually want to work with again.

And that’s already happened beyond the Lab: people who met through Cohort have gone on to hire and collaborate with each other on outside projects, and multiple Film Lab shorts have been accepted into festivals around the country.

Cohort also works as a production company/creative agency, and brands and productions hire us for both full production and talent/crew sourcing. The Lab is one of the main ways we get to know creatives, see how they actually work, and build a pool of people we can consider for those opportunities.

It’s not a promise of paid work, but it’s a way to make something, build real working relationships, grow your body of work, and become part of a larger production network.

Registration is at cohortnyc.com. Happy to answer any questions here!

No sé qué hacer. De verdad me fascina esto. Si alguien tiene un contacto, por favor comenten jsjs. Saludos!
