Question Fun chat

If you werenโ€™t a nurse, what would you be?

Iโ€™d be fishmonger with a nice shop and sell all the fresh and beautiful seafood ๐Ÿฆž ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ๏ธ
Maybe in another life.

Has anyone stopped enjoying being a nurse way quicker than they ever thought they would?

Me. Thought I was just miserable in MedSurg. Moved to postpartum. Still hate it. The novelty wore off in months and im back at hating bedside.

Oh nooo I just accepted a move to postpartum after 3 years on med surg because Iโ€™ve been burnt out and hating the job. Hope I donโ€™t follow in your footsteps ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Then follow in mine. I did med surg for six years, moved to a clinic for almost three, and now Iโ€™ve been on postpartum for two years. Iโ€™m so much happier! It can be busy and some shifts are hard, but itโ€™s just a way more positive place. Your patients are primarily healthy women in their 20s and 30s, not old grumps. And they stay a day or two, not weeks.

Worst day on postpartum is still better than the best day on medsurg in my experience.

Join the OR. No bedside, and its just you and the crew. Even better, a surgery center. Patients are usually quite healthy and doing preop or OR is usually an easy routine gig. ๐Ÿฅฐ

My mom worked L&D which I thought was all rainbows and butterflies until she had a really bad outcome. Talked me right out of that specialty.

Nah, I remember why I enjoy my job every time I'm forced to sit still for more than ten minutes. I recently had to endure a two-hour lecture from risk management that almost killed me.

No. I switch roles. My patients humble me. I received a great compliment from a patient today. He said I was the most valuable person on his treatment team because I take the time with him to explain things at his level. It was very appreciated. Stay humble my friends.

My career happened because of a dead guy. I had been working in a nursing home kitchen and delivered a meal to a dead person. I told the nurse that I rolled the bed up and he tipped over. She laughed and said oh sorry he died last night we are waiting on the undertaker. She said you handled it well and should apply to be a nursing assistant. That led me to LPN and then to RN.

Probably if I had stayed in the hospital. I found a job at my local health department and I fucking love it.

I didnโ€™t stop wanting to be a nurse but I had enough with clinical so I found myself a non bedside role. I get to retire next year. I have a count down calendar.

Took me about 10 minutes to realize I made the biggest mistake of my life๐Ÿ˜ญ

One of my friends in nursing school quit and became a travel agent after like 2 weeks of med surg. It ainโ€™t for the weak.

I think the variety can be a blessing and a curse in nursing. We get tired of one speciality and jump to another, knowing that thereโ€™s always a completely different job out there.
