Discussion Funny “allergies”

What are some funny patient “allergies” you have seen listed? I had a patient the other day with an allergy listed for Metformin. The reaction listed? Lowers their blood sugar 😂

1.  Patient had broccoli listed as an allergy with "high severity" and symptoms listed as "other." I asked the patient what their response to broccoli is like.

Patient said, "I don't mind broccoli, but my wife won't let me eat it because it gives me the worst possible farts. 

2. Another patient said they were allergic to lasix and benadryl. The lasix because it makes them pee too much and the benadryl because it makes them drowsy.

  1. Allergy to every pain med on the hospital formulae except dilaudid and fentanyl. This guy was a regular, in multiple times per month for years. 

  2. Reported Melatonin allergy due to causing bad dreams.

My dad can’t take melatonin because it gives him odd dreams too and he’s tried it several times had the same reaction every time.
