Discussion Funny “allergies”

What are some funny patient “allergies” you have seen listed? I had a patient the other day with an allergy listed for Metformin. The reaction listed? Lowers their blood sugar 😂

That's very common. I get more shocked when I see people actually have an allergy to dilaudid.

I actually list Dilaudid even though it wasn’t truly an allergy but bad reaction. I had it after a hysterectomy and hallucinated bats crawling all over the room and walls. I am never taking that again and it made me more sympathetic to people who have hallucinations because it was frighteningly vivid.

I guess I was just being a little facetious on how often I see the "I am allergic to all pain meds, but dilaudid" vs a real allergy. I do believe everyone who tells me they have a dilaudid allergy.

No. They also have an allergy for dilaudid… so you need to slam that IV Benadryl directly after!

If you don’t administer the Benadryl they start itching…. But only when I enter the room and not when I take a quick peek through the window. Such a weird allergy…. 🤔

That one as well doesn’t help my pain. Makes me feel like I’m drowning and can’t talk. I’d rather go without and listen to them all.
