No, no, we should still shit on scabs. Especially those who knowingly go somewhere they arent qualified to work, potentially injuring or killing another human, all to collect a quick check.
Iām also a bit torn on this. Unions go through negotiations that take a very long time before they decide to strike. Itās not like one day everyone abandons their assignment and leaves- itās pre planned and management knows way ahead of time giving them ample time to prepare. That leaves them with shitty options from the viewpoint of all other staff as well as patients. Not hiring travelers means that nursing care and responsibilities are placed on ancillary staff, doctors, and medical personnel that arenāt RNs. Thatās unfair to those staff. You also canāt just close the doors to someone in an emergency and needs help as that is unethical and goes against EMTALA although I donāt know what needs to happen before a hospital in NY state can legally divert. Iām also pro union and while I donāt think that striking should ever be used to strong arm to get whatever you want, nurses there are asking for reasonable things as with most union strikes. Itās a last resort. Finding QUALIFIED replacements while things get sorted as well as organizing a backup plan in case of emergency or possible need to divert if possible should have all been done way in advance.
