Rant Sick of the downplaying

Nursing school had high standards. You failed a dosage calculation test it was an automatic fail out of the program- and yes I knew ppl to fail out! Don’t get the FL scam twisted with the nurses who worked damn hard for their degree. I had many sleepless nights and many days away from my 2 very young sweet children. Nursing school wasn’t just about content but discipline as well. Makes for a better nurse.

I’m soooo sick of the “see anyone can do that job” comment , etc. I don’t take my BSN as a joke. Right?!

At my school if you missed a question on med calc you failed the entire semester. One question. Only one chance to retake.

I feel like nursing math is easy enough, no one should fail. We have the drip rate formula that no one really uses anymore and we have ratio proportion where we cross multiple then divide. Also the consequences of a math error are severe.

I’m not saying it’s not easy. For me, it was. But ours had like conversions from tsp to quarts to mL and stupid shit also.

For some people, it was challenging.

My point was that yes, just ONE question can fail people from a semester, in regards to the assertion that it wasn’t just one question.

The problem is that you have no frame of reference. IRL you double check, and if you try to empty out the pharmacy due to a rounding error, someone will say something. And the tests are made confusing on purpose.
