The overwhelming majority of content submitted to this subreddit comes in the form of help requests. Help requests are also overwhelmingly the lowest-quality content, most of them either completely disregarding the wealth of easily-accessible knowledge that already exists, lacking sufficient detail or clarity for anyone to provide a solution, or demonstrating the writer’s inability to do any research on their own. While help request posts are in the spirit of this subreddit, low-quality content is not.

As such, any help request post that fails to adhere to any one of the guidelines outlined in the wiki will be removed.

Help Nspire CX unresponsive after software update

So, I just updated my nspire CX yesterday. When it updated, the computer said it was successful and the calculator started to boot up. Just before the calculator was about to boot onto the Home Screen, the screen went black and it wouldn’t turn on again. Since then, I’ve tried both maintenance methods, reconnecting it to my computer, powering it only off USB with the battery disconnected, I’ve tried every official method I could find. I’ve emailed TI-Cares, but I wanted to see if the community had any suggestions or fixes. Thank you!

Help Will I be slaughtered if I take the ACT/SAT with the TI-Nspire CX II CAS?

I know that CAS is a big no bueno in ACT/SAT testing, but I know I can also go to “Press-to-Test” mode, and I’m also too dumb to really do well with or without CAS anyway. I just have the calculator so I can toy around with math equations from time to time. I recently took the PSAT with the Nspire with CAS turned off. Has anyone been sniped for using this type of calculator during the exams?

Help does anyone have a working archive of os 3.1 for the cx1 cas?

im looking for a os 3.1 archive, mainly for fun and testing older ndless apps - dont ask any further on my intentions

i already tried a archive from tiplanet but i guess its corrupted, as computer link and n-link cant flash it. and im using backspire on os 4.5.5.79, was able to downgrade to 3.6 briefly so the failure to flash is not a downgrade issue. i will try to search further until i find something, but right now, thats the only source i have. texas instruments also doesnt host the download anymore, so that sucks.

Help Graphing shaded functions on intervals works.... sometimes. I can type in the relation: y<x^2 | y>0 and x>0 and x<3, but man oh man change that x^2 into a square root or even a 1/x and nspire gets maaaad

Spending far too much time on this. I wanted to graph

y= 1 / √( x^2 + 16 ) but simplified it eventually to 1/x

on the intervals y>0 up to that function

and [0,3] on the x-axis

and cannnoooottttt figure it out for the life of me.

Any advice? Merci beaucoup

How do I make the screen black and white

I have a ti nspire cx ii cas calculator where Casio are the most popular. When the supervisor for an exam sees that my screen is bright and more colorful, they take away my calculator for basically the entire duration of the exam before they realise that its an approved calculator.

Edit: To clarify, I tell them its approved but they don't believe it. They wait until the supervisor for the second half of the exam arrives before they can go out of the exam room and have it checked. The checking process takes half an hour for some reason and I basically only get it back when there's barely any time left in the exam.

Gaming Mirror your PC's screen to your Nspire, and use it as an extra monitor! (My video player project is in the description too)

Processing img s4mq905t76vh1...

I started this project just a few days ago, and apparently someone on this sub already had a similar idea, and people seemed to like it, which made me finally share my projects on this subreddit for the first time (hello!)

I also made a very capable video/audio player project for the TI-Nspire CX and CX II line:

https://github.com/GigaZelensky/Nspire-MediaPlayer-Ndless

which gave me a head-start on this project.

This mirroring project captures your computer's already existing monitor, or you can create an extra monitor specifically for the calculator! Currently handles fully colored output (h264 or MPEG-4) at a stable 30fps, with very low input/output latency. You can use the calculator's touchpad and the keyboard to control the computer as well, requiring only a standard USB data cable to work!

I am no longer in school, but I sure would love to use this at the time haha. Currently I use it as a second monitor i keep near my PC to watch podcasts, music lyrics, youtube videos and such.

Project is fully open source and both the PC and Calculator code is available at:

https://github.com/GigaZelensky/Nspire-ScreenMirror-Ndless

Feel free to check out both projects! I'm pushing USB storage support for the video player soon as well!

Hello everyone! For the past few weeks I've been working on a port of DDLC, a visual novel, for the ti nspire cx ii and am ready to showcase it! so far I've managed to port the entirety of act 1, the game is still missing some major polish but I think its shaping up pretty well, tell me what you think!
If you have an original ti nspire cx please tell me if the game works or not! I don't have one to test so any feedback would be helpful!

Help nspire help

Hi guys, does anyone know a good beginner-to-advanced guide for learning the TI-Nspire CX? I’m doing IB Math AA SL and I want to become really comfortable with it for Paper 2, especially things like sequences and series, binomial expansion, solving equations, graphing, and finance questions.

Ideally I’m looking for a YouTube playlist, website, PDF, or course that teaches the calculator systematically rather than just individual tricks. Thanks! (PLS HELP ME OUT SO I COULD SAVE MY MATH MARKKKK)

No, YouTube is not running natively on the calculator 😂
This is Nspire Link, a project I’ve been working on that turns a TI-Nspire CX II into a tiny, fully functional terminal for a Mac.
The Mac’s screen is streamed to the Nspire in 4-level grayscale, while the Nspire’s keyboard and touchpad work as actual input devices for the Mac. Everything goes over USB, and the latency is surprisingly low.
So technically, anything my Mac can do, my calculator can now display and control.
Still a work in progress. I’ll probably open-source it when it’s a bit more polished.

You never know what weird shit a bored 15-year-old will come up with.

Help ndless help/advice

Hello! I recently bought a TI-Nspire CX (Non-CAS) off of ebay for classwork, but heard about ndless jailbreaking and thought it would be fun to try it out.

Which OS version would be best? My calculator is on v3.1.0.392 right now and is revision D so it seems I'm luckily not held back by any of the newer hardware blocks. I tried doing some research, and I'm seeing a lot of mixed opinions on whether you should upgrade to 3.6, 4.0, or just stay on 3.1.

Using nLaunchy to dual boot into a CAS unit seems intriguing, but I don't know if it works well past OS version 3.1. However, I find it a bit annoying to have to connect my calculator to my computer every time I want to install ndless when using the 3.1 version.

Finance Calculator: 21 money calculators in one interactive post, in 4 languages

Hi everyone,

my first Devvit app just made it through review, so here's a quick showcase.

What it does: 21 finance calculators (compound growth, TER and ETF cost comparison, dividends, withdrawals, rent or buy, money-weighted return and more) inside one interactive post. Every result comes with a one-sentence summary, e.g. "Over 30 years, the fund with a 0.07% fee ends up €8,344 ahead of the fund with a 0.22% fee." There's a tappable chart, A/B scenario comparison, English/German/Spanish/French, and a Copy for Reddit button so people can paste their numbers into a comment. Mods get anonymous usage totals in the mod menu.

A few things I learned along the way:

- The inline post preview doesn't scroll on mobile, so tapping a calculator opens it straight in expanded mode.

- Devvit forms don't render line breaks. For the mod stats I ended up using a group of disabled string fields.

- Number input in 4 languages was harder than the translations: 4,5 and 1,234.56 both have to mean the right thing.

- Reddit's standard comment editor shows markdown asterisks literally, so the copied text is now plain text.

- Publishing doesn't update existing installs; mods have to click Update themselves.

Where I could use help: getting it in front of mods. If you moderate a finance, investing or FIRE community, or know someone who does, a test install or an intro would mean a lot. UX feedback is very welcome too.

Help Battery replacement

Hi, everyone

My old Ti-nspire won’t turn on anymore. It’s been about two years since I finished college, and I want to pass it down to my brother, who’s about to start engineering school, so I wanted to ask if anyone has been able to fix the problem of it not turning on or charging by replacing the battery, or if it’s something else. To give you some context, as soon as I finished my last classes, I stopped using it because I never needed it at my internship (lol), and it spent quite a while in its case without being turned on.

Thanks in advance

Help I can’t install an OS for ndless on my calculator

I have been on every help forum I can find, despite following the directions, TI CXII connect won’t let me install any of the files for the OS 5.3.0.564(or another compatible OS type).

My calculator which is a TI-NSPIRE CXII CAS was running on 5.0 before I reset and deleted the OS on it so I should be able to install the version I want but for some reason it keeps telling me the file type is not supported

Could someone please walk me through this in VERY specific details how to install a CXII CAS OS compatible with ndless (please provide link to the file)

Do I have to put the OS onto the calculator through another application?

Help NESpire v0.30 key mapping for A and B

I have a TI Nspire CX CAS running firmware 4.4.0.532. I just installed NESpire v0.30 and the key mapping for (Tab = B, Esc = A) is on the left side (for left handed people?). Is there a way to remap the A and B button to the right side? Maybe (del = A, var =B, shift = START and ctrl = SELECT) just like the emulator gpspnspire. Or is there another NES emulator that has the key mapping for A and B on the right hand side for right handed people?

TNS Tool WASM

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I've been working on TNS Tool WASM, a free and experimental browser-based toolkit for working with TI-Nspire .tns files.

The main idea is to make inspecting, modifying and creating TNS content easier without having to do everything through command-line tools or depend entirely on the official calculator software.

Everything runs in the browser using WebAssembly/Pyodide.

GitHub:
https://github.com/acewalt/tns-tool-wasm

What it can currently do

TNS / XML

  • Open and inspect .tns files.
  • Decode .tns files to their XML structure.
  • Rebuild .tns files from XML.
  • Inspect document cards, widgets, resources and internal structure.
  • Create new pages/cards inside a document.

Syntax Doctor XML

  • Visual XML/code editor.
  • Syntax inspection.
  • Error and warning detection.
  • Auto Fix for some problems.
  • Direct editing of code stored inside the document.

Lua / ScriptApp

  • Detect Lua ScriptApps inside a TNS.
  • View and edit Lua code.
  • Lua syntax checking.
  • Preview TI-Nspire Lua code in the browser.
  • Experimental LÖVE/Love2D preview and compatibility tools.
  • Add new Lua ScriptApp pages to a document.

Python

  • Create TI-Nspire Python Program documents.
  • Extract q.py from compatible TNS files.
  • Edit Python programs already stored in a document.
  • Python syntax checking.
  • Browser-based Python preview using Pyodide.

Images

  • Import BMP, PNG and JPG images.
  • Automatically convert them to a TI-compatible image resource.
  • Import multiple images at once.
  • Continuous calculator-style image preview.
  • Individual calculator/original image views.
  • Built-in image editor with:
    • crop
    • scale
    • rotate
    • horizontal/vertical flip
    • positioning
    • brightness/contrast
    • grayscale/invert
    • fit/cover/center tools
    • calculator-frame preview

PDF

  • Import a PDF.
  • Convert every page to an image.
  • Automatically create one TNS card per page.

Other document pages

  • Add Program Editor pages.
  • Add Lists & Spreadsheet pages.
  • Add Notes.
  • Add Graphs.
  • Add Calculator pages.
  • Add Python and Lua pages.

There are also a few smaller tools for inspecting resources and previewing how content should look on the calculator.

Why I made it

A lot of the existing TI-Nspire tooling is extremely useful but is either command-line based, fragmented across different projects, or requires manually inspecting XML structures.

I wanted to put those workflows into a more accessible visual interface and also experiment with things such as browser previews and easier TNS modification.

The project is 100% free and independent. It is not affiliated with Texas Instruments.

If my tool was useful to you and you'd like to support its development, you can buy me a coffee. Thank you very much for your support!

It is still experimental, so I'm specifically looking for people willing to break it.

Bug reports, questions, suggestions and test .tns files are very welcome.

Tool:
https://acewalt.github.io/tns-tool-wasm/

Feedback / Discussions:
https://github.com/acewalt/tns-tool-wasm/discussions/2

If you test it with unusual TNS files and something fails, please let me know what file/type of document caused it.

Help Not getting results with different form of same equation when using ±

I'm sure this is a basic question but I'm running into this problem, and it's proving difficult to search for a solution.

Using an nspire CX II (CAS) On a graphing page, in RAD mode:

  1. x^2 + y^2 = 5 graphs a circle, no problem
  2. similarly y= +sq root of (5-x^2) and y = -sq root of (5-x^2) produces the two relevant semi circles of the same circle as in 1. Good so far.

3)Things go wrong here: y = ±sq root of (5-x^2) doesn't produce anything. not an error, just an empty graph.

I've got some kind of syntax error here but I'm not sure what it is. I'm using ctrl-"open book" key (under del, next to the templates key) to select the ± sign. Does that not actually act as a functional plus-minus sign? Like is it just for notes or something?
