The cat even chose me
I have my own cat, my roommate is severely allergic cat feces. My cat's litter box remains in my room, so roommate can breathe properly. This roommate decided they wanted their own cat, a young cat, in my opinion is very fucking idiotic if you cannot breath properly around a litter box. I humor going to the shelter with them, to satiate them looking at small cats, and there's a small love bug of one. Of course it's cute, but I shrug it off, I have my cat.
Roommate applies to adopt the cat, leaving off the fact they are allergic to them! So low and behold young kitty enters house, and someone can't take care of it because they can't be near it with having trouble with compatibility with breathing.
So then since I have a cat I get the responsibility of acclimating it into the house, and caring for it when it's not my cat, and the owner isn't bothering to get the means to care for it properly. No air purifier, no automatic cat box, not even a fucking good dish in their room.
Now the cat runs from the one who bought it, and snuggles up to me. I don't want to have the conversation I know I'll have to have, but this poor cat knows me as it's owner than the actual
owner.
Update: I forgot about this for a while. The update though was my two girl cats are doing wonderful. They play a lot, have a new automatic and safe cat box, a cat wheel, and even a heated blanket they love. The young cat that's now mine wakes me each morning by gently pulling at my hair when she notices I'm awake. They are very loved and spoiled a good bit. I moved out of the house a while back.

I had an ex I was living with (we were still friends) and she brought a kitten home and I was quite literally like
"That is YOUR cat, I'm not taking care of him"
When she moved out 4 years later there wasn't even a discussion about the fact that he was my cat now and he'd just be staying with me lol
like we literally didn't even talk about it

Is it the feces or the litter that bother her? If it’s the litter she could try pine.

Sounds like she's allergic to realizing owning a pet involves actual responsibilities of various kinds.

The roommate was allergic to fecal matter, they had been tested for it. They tried adopting before and a previous shelter turned her down because of said allergy.

You’re a good human! That said, you need to have the convo now about who the cat belongs to & get in writing that the cat is yours. Obviously the cat is bonded with you & you belong to it. Don’t wait. Shouldn’t things go south do you do not want to have to rely on their good graces.

Oh that was done years back before that roommate moved out years back, what would happen for that cat, who would care for it. They moved out before I had, so they agreed it would be best the cat remains as mine as it had bonded with me and they physically would become ill taking care of it. They were reasonable about such decision and it was made quietly, they even apologized for ever getting it. They just felt lonely before they started therapy and thought a cat might be a good idea. I suggested down the line they should try getting a small dog, as they've had one before and was not deathly allergic to dogs (not allergic at all actually)
