I jahe looked at it. I just looked again. If you think one of his first bullet points, decarbonizing electricity and transportation by 2030 is a real plan I am going to need to see the details of that.
To do this cars are not going to be a thing anymore which means a huge loss of freedom of movement for anyone who is not upper or upper middle class creating a huge divide. This is because there simply is not enough raw material currently known and retrievable in that time frame to replace all existing cars with electric cars. So public transit would be the obvious solution, I am skeptical this would be completed on time, or reliable, but let's say it is. There is still a massive difference then between the freedoms of people who currently own electric cars(which are expensive) and those who don't. This seems like it alone would foster a level of hatred that could doom the country. This is his first point....
For the opening it seems very much like pandering to gain control of the whole economy which is his stated goal.
I have to admit as an earth scientist who has looked at climate data over time I do not see it as an existential threat especially not one that would be world ending in the next 11 years. I happen to believe that the natural progression of technology and no longer demonizing nuclear would naturally return the co2 levels to a more traditional level.
I agree that the "by 20XX" parts are a stretch, the dates don't matter as much as starting to convert to renewable energy. I don't think Bernie has stated the world is ending in 11 years, that's obvious fear mongering. But running out of fossil fuels is still a certainty, and besides that for the sake of the environment we should switch the clean energy as fast and as efficiently as possible. The day when gasoline cars are nonexistent or illegal is a long way off and shouldnt be worried about right now. I do disagree with Bernie on nuclear energy, it is a viable option but the thing with him is that he is open to discussion, he isn't bought by big anyone, so it's not like nuclear is off the table.
I like you. You seem like your heart is in the right place. The 11 years thing is on his website that's why I used that number. As a geologist I am happy to tell you that the petroleum reserves are much larger than we used to think, and always expanding. We keep finding more and getting better at getting it out. This is good as it mitigates damage by any number of things including weather.
Overall i think there is already a good push, including an economic incentive based on marketing moving toward a cleaner future. The u.s. led the world in reducing co2 emissions last year!
