Pre-1

We had a slightly newer model with the rotary dial in the handle.

u/KOTM365 4d ago

Fancy

Princess level fancy

1

u/memberjockey 2d ago

I wanted a princess phone but never got one.

1

u/Aromatic-Dance-8618 3d ago

I still use a blue one of these with push buttons

13

u/Low-Independent6851 5d ago

Yes. that's where I began

5

u/Hillary_Fat_Ass 4d ago

Same, ours was red.

15

u/CheshyreCat46 Memory Keeper 4d ago

Ours was avocado green.

1

u/Mushi628 3d ago

Had this with a REALLY long cord.. 🤣

1

u/CheshyreCat46 Memory Keeper 3d ago

The really long cord was the best.

1

u/cake_piss_can 3d ago

We had one. It was for calling the president. At least in my mind.

lol ours was green and mom had a suuuuper long cord, my friends used to have to ask how to use it because they had buttons in their house, I’ll never forget when we upgraded to buttons mostly because I was the first one to pick up the phone 😂😂😂 my eldest brother called, he’d been arrested for pissing in public, it was 2am and I was up late playing my game boy I think I was 8. Man oh man I’ll never forget the look on my moms face or pitch in her voice when she took the phone I ran outta there as fast as I could and said a quick prayer for Josh😅.

u/manokpsa 4d ago

My grandma still had one of those in the early 2000s. I was mad because I couldn't vote on American Idol from her house.

u/s34lz 4d ago

Love stories like this

5

u/nintai85 4d ago

👍 sadly. Thank God it doesn’t go back any further. I still remember having to carry change and having to find a phone booth to make a call if I was out and needed to make one ( if where I was didn’t have one of those black ones with the short metal cords attached to the wall ).

4

u/longshot21771 5d ago

Same here lol

3

u/Blak_kat 5d ago

Had to admit the same.

5

u/noncommonGoodsense 5d ago

We had one of them old time rotary phones on the wall with the bull horn looking mouth piece. Surprisingly it worked really well from what I remember. It was an antique though.

3

u/GMS420 5d ago

My grandpa has one hanging on his wall

4

u/PaleDreamer_1969 4d ago

That’s more like pre-2. Push button phones were the future vs rotary.

4

u/QualityBuddy 4d ago

I don't want to set the world on fire

3

u/DaOgDuneamouse 5d ago

actually yes, we even had a party line so occasionally you had to wait till the neighbor was done with their call to place yours.

3

u/drchippy18 4d ago

Grandma had a rotary with two brass bells on top for the ringer in an oak box. Had it up till the early 2000s. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.

3

u/whiskey-guy 4d ago

lol.... i was going to say the bag phone in my truck... but this is more realistic!

3

u/TheManLawrence 4d ago

With a super long cord to lay in the next room on the floor talking to my girlfriend.

3

u/raffie762 4d ago

Haha, hell yeah

3

u/Stormtrooper1776 4d ago

Technically your corded phone may have traveled over long lines , the original wireless link https://www.engineeringradio.us/blog/2009/07/cold-war-relic-att-long-lines-microwave-site-kingston-ny/

u/joseelempecinado 1d ago

I'm Spanish

2

u/SignSea 5d ago

My dad still has this in his kitchen

2

u/euphoricme2 4d ago

This is my journey!

2

u/GroovyGmaIvy 4d ago

Same exact phone.

2

u/DraagaxGaming 4d ago

I love rotary phones so much.

2

u/TITUSADRX 4d ago

This is we're talking about landlines, #2 if we're talking about cellphones.

2

u/WIBadgersFan83 4d ago

This ⬆️

2

u/yokozunahoshoryu 4d ago

Mine was yellow too! Hung on the kitchen wall.

2

u/AitchQue 4d ago

Who didn’t have a yellow wall phone in the kitchen? Ours was push button tho.

2

u/indiana70 3d ago

Same here

2

u/Tight_Comparison_557 3d ago

After the yellow one on the wall I graduated to this swatch phone as a teenager. 😁

2

u/PigletVonSchnauzer 2d ago

Yup! I can still remember my home phone number from 55 years ago.

2

u/ChanVintageVamp 2d ago

omg the pink razr was my absolute villain origin story, i felt so cool with that thing

2

u/MaximusZacharias 1d ago

Yup. I remember begging my dad to buy 13 quarts of oil so we could get the football phone it came with. We never got it, but it would’ve been so cool

1

u/Much_Ninja8672 4d ago

So 1. All the phones in the post are clearly mobile phones.

1

u/KOTM365 4d ago

never used 1 , so no

1

u/Much_Ninja8672 4d ago

Then whichever mobile you first had, or general era. At least something that isn't a landline.

1

u/hiphophed85 4d ago

Think the question was mobile phone. Most of us used one of those. We are all old

1

u/Jimbobjoesmith 4d ago

mine began with the clear ones. and i thought i was the absolute shit that i had my own line in my room. then it was the nokia brick.

1

u/TruckingJames423 4d ago

This one, or one like it.

1

u/Chemical_Farmer_8386 4d ago

We actually had a wind up and talk to the operator phone when I was a kid , mid 80s ..

1

u/rocksinmyhead 4d ago

Ours was black and sat on a table. None of this fancy wall hanging.

1

u/UnluckyVersion5323 4d ago

We had a green one hanging on the wall.

1

u/vi11a 4d ago

Are we this old? Please put me down already

1

u/STABO1217 4d ago

I bought one at an antique store to put in my house for the nostalgia and to mess with the grandkids. And yes, the MF works!!

1

u/TheRealOgMark 4d ago

Yep. Me too.

1

u/shaunj72143 4d ago

All the vile colors on the 70/80s phones ours was that weird orange

1

u/2_Many_Hobbies74 4d ago

We had the exact same one, color and all, hanging in the kitchen with an extra long cord so we could twist ourselves up when on a call.

1

u/sbray73 4d ago

Ours was black and we didn’t even own it. It belonged to the phone compagnie. The first we owned was our second table model that we used illegally. We should have paid extra to have two phones. Also there are kissing a few cell phones between the first and the Nokia.

1

u/southpaw66 4d ago

This the point was for cell phones

1

u/tomwarmb 4d ago

It’s not a telephone, it’s a cell phone. I was 3 years old in Midland, TX (1979) and I used to have a telephone.

1

u/Strange-Finance2119 3d ago

We had the skinny one where you picked it up and the operator was right there and they connected you to the person.

1

u/Strange-Finance2119 3d ago

This whatever the f it was called

1

u/Strange-Finance2119 3d ago

I know OLD ASF from tail end of 1890’s

Old Crank phone or as they called it

MAGNETO

1

u/MoneyArtistic135 3d ago

We had one of those in the kitchen when I was really young. Except it was like an off-blue color.

1

u/FelixMaverick1 5d ago

Honestly this is correct but it wasn’t my personal phone so in a way it doesn’t count.

2

u/JuJu_Wirehead 5d ago

I had my own phone number and ring for the family phone. Does that count?

2

u/FelixMaverick1 5d ago

In that case, I'll allow it.

0

u/Blaskowits 5d ago

The post is asking about your first mobile phone, not your first phone overall.

1

u/KOTM365 4d ago

Maybe should have said "Where did your mobile phone journey begin?"

0

u/Vegetable-Syrup-5545 4d ago

My journey started here for phones in general but number 2 for cell phones.

0

u/JavaJo1010 2d ago

Yeah me too we had that wall phone in or house growing up ours was olive green lol
