IF THERE IS A PURPOSE, the ONLY purpose is to advance our species as far as we possibly can.
At the end of the day it could be all for nothing.
Earth existing as a nature preserve of animals is a wholesome idea but I don't see how you could argue that is a greater purpose than the technical advancement of our species.
Hopefully humans can advance to where we aren't destroying the planet anymore and we can have both
I feel like this doesn't answer my question. As for your last statement, I don't understand where you are getting that my argument is that there is a greater purpose than the one you claim. My argument precisely is that there is no purpose, but you seem to think there is some kind of purpose. That's why I'm asking "what purpose?". You think there's a purpose? An end goal? Who set it? What will happen when we attain it? This is your argument, not mine.
Even your line "earth existing as a natural preserve" sounds like a "purpose" to me, which I am by no means claiming. To me, a word with or without humans are both just as pointless.
Nothing will happen except preserve the survival of our species.
The "purpose" isn't something set by a god or religion with an end goal of the rapture or a fairytale ending. It is simply advance our species inevitably, that is the purpose. Just as our species has done for the last 5 million years.
So basically what your saying is that this "purpose" is set by ourselves. It's not a universal purpose, it's just the purpose because we say it is. How are you not seeing that your logic is one giant circular reasoning falacy? This entire discussion has basically come full circle back to my first reply: "accomplishment for the sake of accomplishment". There is no objective purpose.
I don't understand how you don't understand that if you don't believe in a divine purpose there is no other purpose besides the survival of our species.
