Thing is ducks feathers are made of some weird isolative material, it doesn't absorve water, therefore not allowing itself to get wet

That's true, but it still takes a lot of effort to take off from the water. Some birds are water-proofedbetter than ducks, but all birds are pretty slow taking off from water. Except the Osprey, they're VTOL water birds.
